Arizona offers Hutchings

Michael Hutchings may be the top player in California for 2013 and Arizona has now decided to enter for his services. Where does the offer put Arizona? Read on for more.

While Arizona is still in hot pursuit of many 2012 recruits, the coaching staff has wasted no time on putting some focus towards 2013 prospects. The Wildcats are aiming high with one target, as they have extended an offer to 6-foot-1, 210-pound Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker Michael Hutchings.

Hutchings is one of the top defensive prospects on the west coast from the 2013 class. Arizona assistant coach Jeff Hammerschmidt has been in touch with Hutchings lately and the linebacker has taken it upon himself to reach out to UA's special teams coordinator.

"I actually called him just to keep up with him," Hutchings said. "I call him maybe once a week or so. He's recruiting other guys from my team and he told me to expect my official letter when the offers can actually come out for our class and expect that on September 1st I can have a spot on the Wildcats if I want."

Over the last two months, Hutchings has been able to build a pretty solid relationship with Hammerschmidt.

"I have been talking to him at least since the middle of May," Hutchings said. "We have been talking for a while. I call him at least once a week. It's going well. He has a good connection with one of our assistant coaches. So that keeps everything well also."

Hutchings is not a prospect that will be short on options. Arizona's offer is his eighth to date, but he is reluctant to put one school ahead of another at this point in time.

"I haven't put together any kind of list yet," Hutchings said. "I am all over the place actually. I am just looking for a place that fits. That's where we're at right now; me and my parents."

The linebacker from De La Salle is a popular recruit among schools all across the country right now. He hasn't even started his junior campaign yet, but he has already visited two of the top programs in the state of California. Hutchings also plans on being in attendance for a few college games in the upcoming season.

"I have already been to USC and Cal," Hutchings said. "I think those will be the only two this year, but I definitely want to get some games in -- check out the game-atmosphere of some of the teams. I think that's going to be our next step for this upcoming fall."

With a long way to go before the 2013 Signing Day, Hutchings has more than enough time until he must decide where he wants to play college football. He isn't quite sure exactly when he will decide, but he would like to get it out of the way before the beginning of the 2012 season.

"Some days I may wake up and feel ‘Ok, I like this school and maybe I'll commit here'," Hutchings said. "Another day I may wake up and say, ‘I'm not sure'. I am all over the place right now. I feel like I will definitely make a decision before my senior year. I would rather go into my senior year a little more comfortable and have the weight lifted off my shoulders."
