Recruiting update: May 7th

Things are progressing in the Wildcats' pursuit for players. Recruiting is in full swing and the Arizona coaching staff was on the road during April evaluating players. The Cats will likely add two more players to a class that already contains shooting guard Jawann McClellan.

The Cats have already added a player for the class of '06. Point guard Nic Wise's commitment may have caused a change in the Wildcat's recruiting strategy. At least one player in the '05 class has indicated that the Wildcat coaches have told him that at this time they do not plan on adding a guard in the next class. Of course that could change depending on who signs this season and if anyone leaves the program.

There is news on some of the guards the Wildcats are looking at for this recruiting class, the Class of 2004. Shaun Livingston has a hurt ankle and will not participate in any events for the next two weeks. He gutted it out at the Speice Run ‘N Slam and played on the injury. The ankle, while painful, is not a long-term injury. Livingston will most likely visit Florida the last weekend in May.

Jordan Farmar is set to visit Florida in a couple weeks as well. He is supposed to be in Gainesville on the 16th. He has narrowed his schools down to the Gators, the Cats, Gonzaga and UCLA. A few weeks ago he told Cat Tracks that he hoped that UConn would get involved, but as of now the Huskies are on the outside looking in. Farmar is supposedly going to take an unofficial visit to UCLA this weekend.

The Cats had been scouting Gabriel Pruitt but the LA point guard appears to be off the market. Pruitt committed to USC after visiting with Henry Bibby.

Another player the Wildcat coaches have been taking a look at is Josh Heytvelt. The 6-8 power forward from Clarkson, WA is starting to gain major attention. Heytvelt is an intriguing, athletic player who is reminiscent of many of the athletic big men who have developed in Lute Olson's system. Heytvelt is said to be interested in Gonzaga, Washington and UCLA, but it will be interesting to see if Arizona picks up steam if they crank up the interest.
