Fall Camp 8/17: Evening Recap

Arizona had an intense practice Wednesday night, as both sides of the ball had its bright spots. Read on to see who shined and who struggled.

Arizona had an intense evening session of Fall Camp as it gets closer to Saturday's scrimmage.

After team drills, Nick Foles opened up 7-on-7 drills with a completion to Juron Criner on a 12-yard comeback pattern. On his second throw, Foles again looked to Criner, but under threw his man. He rebounded with consecutive completions to Terrence Miller and Keola Antolin on the sidelines.

Matt Scott took the reps with the second team, and hit Austin Hill on consecutive passes over the middle. He wrapped up his first series by hitting Patrick Onwuasor and Trevor Ermisch over the middle for completions.

Foles re-entered for his second series, and immediately hit Antolin on a short pattern over the middle before missing on an attempt to Miller. On his third play, Foles went deep for Criner, but over threw him by a wide margin. He completed a five yard pass to Tyler Slavin before giving way to Scott.

The short patterns continued for the quarterbacks and receivers, as Scott hit Ka'Deem Carey in the flat for a small gain. On his next two attempts, Scott overthrew Gino Crump on a comeback pattern and was short on an attempt to Richard Morrison.

It was back to Foles for his third series, and he immediately hit Morrison on consecutive attempts over the middle. His success for that series ended there, as he missed on his next three attempts, which included a drop by Hill in the endzone.

Foles remained on the field for the start of 11-on-11 drills, and Trevin Wade made his presence felt with a nice breakup against Hill. Foles then threw behind Miller on a crossing route before he hit Michael Cooper on an out pattern. On his final play of the series, he hit Miller on a similar out pattern for a short gain.

Scott struggled in his next series, as he was short on a pass intended for David Roberts on his first throw, missed Miller short once again on his second throw, and then threw high for Hill on his third throw.

Foles seemed to have a bit more success, as he hit Roberts and Slavin on two straight throws for about six yards per completion. After a hand off to Carey that resulted in a short gain, Jowyn Ward recorded a sack on Foles' final play of the series.

Scott handed to Daniel Jenkins on his first play back on the field before once again over throwing Roberts. He bounced back with a short completion to Garic Wharton before Kylan Butler took a hand off for a big gain over the right side.

Dame Ndiaye registered a sack on Foles' return to the first team, and on the quarterback's second attempt he misfired to Ermisch. Drew Robinson recorded a catch on an out pattern before Ndiaye tackled Carey for a loss on a handoff.

Onwuasor brought in his first ball of 11-on-11 drills on a crossing route, before Scott threw another incompletion down field.

Dan Pettinato, who was getting reps with the first team in place of Mohammed Usman, welcomed Foles back with a sack. Taimi Tutogi took a swing pass for a big gain on the next play, and Butler once again carried for big yards over the right side. It was back to Butler, this time through the air, as he and Foles connected for a four yard score.

Foles handed to Carey on back-to-back plays before a bad snap stalled the series. The ball was moved up to the 20-yard line, and Foles hit Wharton on a swing pattern just before Chris Merrill sacked the quarterback on his final play of practice.

It was back to Miller on first down before Scott hit Morrison for a five-yard touchdown. On the final play of practice, Scott tried to catch the defense off guard by snapping the ball before the defense was set, but his fade attempt to Hill was played nicely by Wade.
