Three-star Inglewood (Calif.) defensive back Devian Shelton knew that he wanted to end his recruitment sooner than later.

With the timing already decided, he went about choosing the right school for him as well. On Sunday, he made a commitment to that school, as Arizona has received a verbal from the 6-foot-2, 180-pound athlete.

"I have been wanting to get it over with and Arizona was the best fit for me," Shelton said.

Shelton has developed a strong relationship with the Arizona coaching staff and when he informed his recruiting coach of his decision, it was met with elation.

"Ryan Walters is recruiting me and he was excited," Shelton said. "He has been recruiting me real hard and has wanted me to come there, so he was excited.

"Walters came from Colorado and he told me I play like a player that just got drafted and he is going to go far in his career and I will probably do same thing."

Shelton was looking at two other schools in addition to Arizona, but says that he started to know last week that Arizona was the place for him.

"I was also looking at San Diego State and Arizona State," he said. "I knew Arizona was the school I wanted to go to probably last week. "They have been recruiting me since my junior year. They just offered me last week or a few weeks ago."

In terms of what type of player Arizona will be getting, Shelton says that his strengths on the field are simple.

"I lock down receivers and that is the kind of player I am," he said. "I can shut down the entire side of the field."
