Wildcats' inconsistency costs them on road

Washington's offense and Arizona's inconsistency cost it Saturday night, as the Wildcats lost 42-31 on the road.

Arizona found itself in a close game for the first time this season.

Unfortunately, the end result was much of the same.

Washington's offense wore Arizona down as it defeated the Wildcats 42-31 at Husky Stadium.

Arizona started on its own 31-yard line with a 16-yard pass from Nick Foles to Juron Criner followed by a four-yard run by Daniel Jenkins. Gino Crump then gained ten through the air and Austin Hill gained 12 more on the next play. Keola Antolin then gained four yards on two consecutive carries, but could not get the first down on third and one. Arizona settled for a 36-yard field goal by John Bonano and the Wildcats took the 3-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Washington got the ball on its own 18 and despite a seven-yard pass from Keith Price, the Huskies could not get anything going due in large part to a sack by Tra'Mayne Bondurant that led to a loss of 11 and a punt.

Starting on its own 34, Criner was able to draw a personal foul and pass interference penalty three plays into the drive to keep possession. After an incomplete pass, Foles found Crump for nine and Taimi Tutogi followed with a four-yard run. Foles then connected with Dan Buckner for 11 yards and two plays later, Criner scored from 24 yards out as the extra point made it 10-0 in favor of Arizona.

After a strong kick return, the Huskies got the ball on their own 45-yard line. However, Arizona's defense once again stepped up and two incomplete passes and a run for no gain by Chris Polk forced the Huskies to punt.

Arizona then started on its own 26-yard line with a five-yard pass from Foles to Crump followed by a nine-yard catch two plays later. Criner then caught a six-yard reception and two plays later, Foles ran for seven yards and the first down. After a four-yard run by Antolin, the drive stalled and Arizona was forced to punt.

Three plays into Washington's ensuing drive, Price found Devin Aguilar for 21 yards and then Polk gained 14 on the ground. Two plays later, Kevin Smith caught a pass for eight yards and Polk followed with a six-yard run to put the Huskies at Arizona's 33-yard line. Two plays later, James Johnson caught a 16-yard pass early in the second quarter and after a Polk two-yard run, Jermaine Kearse ran it in from six yards out, as the extra point made it 10-7 in favor of Arizona.

Arizona tried to answer starting on its own 31-yard line with a 12-yard pass to Criner. Two plays later, Foles found Ka'Deem Carey for a 22-yard completion and three plays after that, David Roberts caught a six-yard pass. The drive then stalled and Arizona settled for a 47-yard field goal by Bonano to make the score 13-7.

Washington once again got a strong return and started on its own 41-yard line. Washington tried a pitch to Aguilar, who threw it to Polk for 33 yards and possession at Arizona's 26-yard line. Kearse then caught a 19-yard pass to Arizona's seven and two plays later, Polk ran it in from four yards out to get to the one-yard line and force a third and goal. On third down, Washington had a false start, but then drew a questionable pass interference penalty on Robert Golden.

Arizona's defense held up at the two-yard line and forced a fourth and goal from the one, but Polk was able to walk it in as the extra point made it 14-13 in favor of the Huskies with a little over six minutes left in the first half.

Arizona started on its own 21-yard line looking for an answer, as Foles completed a nine-yard pass to Crump and Antolin followed with two runs for a combined nine yards. However, after a ten-yard completion to Criner, the drive stalled and the Wildcats were forced to punt from their own 43-yard line with under four minutes to go in the half.

Starting on its own 23-yard line, Price found Kasen Williams for 12 yards. Three plays later, on third down, Marquis Flowers came up with a huge interception to give Arizona the ball on Washington's 46. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Huskies forced them into a three and out, as the score was 14-13 in favor of UW going into the half.

Washington started on its own 50 to begin the second half and Bishop Sankey gained nine on the ground. Cortez Johnson was then called for pass interference and after a nine-yard completion by Kearse, Price finds a wide open Polk for the 17-yard touchdown, as the extra point made it 21-13.

Arizona started on its own 10-yard line after a block in the back and Douglas caught two passes in a row for ten yards each. After an incomplete pass, Foles found Criner for 11 yards then threw a pass on a miscommunication that led to an interception.

On Washington's first play, Price found Polk for 33 yards to keep up the Husky momentum. On the next play, Johnson fumbled a catch right into the hands of Robert Golden, who had numerous blockers and scored from 91 yards out to cut the UW lead to 21-19. Arizona decided to go for two and Foles found Douglas for the conversion, as Arizona tied it at 21 with 10:40 left in the third quarter.

The Huskies started quickly on their drive with a 19-yard run by Polk, followed by a five-yard completion by Aguilar a few plays later. After a seven-yard play, Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught a 14-yard pass and on two of the next three plays, Polk gained 11 total yards on the ground. Price then kept it himself and ran 11 yards up the middle, as Polk gained eight yards two plays later. On the next play, Polk ran it in from one-yard out and the extra point made it 28-21 Washington with over five minutes left in the third.

Arizona took possession on its own 35-yard line and immediately got into Washington territory with a 16-yard pass from Foles to Buckner and then a personal foul was added on as well. Criner then caught a 12-yard pass, Roberts a pass for 13 yards, and then Criner caught a fade route for the nine-yard touchdown with the extra point making it 28 all.

The Arizona defense then stepped up in a big way, forcing a three and out and allowing the offense to get the ball at its own 30. Carey had two straight six-yard gains on the ground followed by a seven-yard reception by Criner. Two plays later, Foles found Carey in the flat and he made two power moves to allow himself to gain 41 yards to Washington's ten. Criner then caught a five-yard pass and the third quarter ended with Arizona on Washington's five-yard line and the scored tied at 28.

Arizona was unable to convert the first down, but Bonano was able to come in and hit the 24-yard field goal to give Arizona the 31-28 lead with a little over 14 minutes to go in the game.

Washington started on its own 46 with a ten-yard run by Polk, but three plays later, Trevin Wade came up with a huge interception to give Arizona the ball on its own 29-yard line.

Antolin started with a nine-yard run, but then lost three on the next carry. On third and four, Foles failed to complete the pass and Arizona was forced to punt, giving the Huskies the ball right back.

Price started with an 11-yard run and two plays later, found Williams for 48 yards. Three plays later, Price found Smith for 26 yards and on the next play, Polk ran it in from five yards out, as the extra point gave UW the 35-31 lead and eventually the victory.
