It left as a team that was embarrassed.
Arizona struggled on both sides of the ball, as Colorado defeated Arizona 48-29 on Saturday.
Arizona started on its own 27-yard line with a four-yard pass from Nick Foles to David Douglas. Keola Antolin then gained nine on the ground, but the drive stalled with three incomplete passes and the Wildcats were forced to punt.
Colorado took the ball on its own 20-yard line with a 15-yard run by Paul Richardson followed by a three-yard run by Rodney Stewart. On the next play, Keenan Canty caught a 39-yard pass and quarterback Tyler Hansen followed with a 13-yard run. Hansen then gained six more on the ground and Stewart then scored from five yards out, as the extra point made it 7-0.
Arizona tried to answer by starting on its own 32-yard line with a two-yard run by Antolin. Austin Hill then has a 23-yard completion and Antolin followed with two more yards on the ground. Foles found Taimi Tutogi for 14 yards and Antolin followed with another short gain. Gino Crump then caught a five-yard pass and the drive stalled for a bit with two penalties.
On 1st and 20, Antolin ran for five yards and David Douglas followed with a four-yard reception. Foles then ran for eight yards and fumbled, but Kyle Quinn recovered. On fourth and three, John Bonano came on to attempts a 25-yard field goal and nailed it, making the score 7-3.
Colorado's ensuing drive started at the 15-yard line with a seven-yard run by Stewart. Hansen then ran for six yards and then four on the next play. A handful of plays later, Stewart ran for 23 yards to the Arizona 49. Two plays later, Hansen found Toney Clemons for 25 yards to Arizona's 13 to end the first quarter.
It looked as if Arizona would come up with a stop when an option play faltered and the Buff lost 13 yards. However, on third and 23, Hansen found Clemons for 21 yards. The Buffs then went for it on fourth and two and Hansen found Tony Jones for the five-yard touchdown pass, as the missed extra point made it 13-3.
The Wildcats tried to get something going on offense with a 12-yard pass from Foles to Juron Criner. Two plays later, Foles found David Robert for four yards, but Foles fumbled on the next play and gave CU the ball on its own 38.
The Wildcats forced the Buffs to punt and two plays into Arizona's drive, Foles found Criner for 24 yards to the CU 40. Foles then found hit Hill for 12 yards and two plays later, Carey ran for 27 yards to the one-yard line. Two plays after that, Carey was able to run it in for the score and the extra point cut the CU lead to 13-10 with over six minutes left in the first half.
both teams then forced the other to punt, but Kyle Dugandzic caught the snap on the ground, giving CU the ball on the 28. Hansen started the drive with a three-yard run then found Ryan Deehan for the seven-yard completion. On the next play, Josh Ford ran for the 17-yard touchdown, as the extra point made it 20-10 going into halftime.
CU started the half with the ball and Hansen converted a a third and seven with a run for eight yards. Three plays later, he converted another third down with a 19-yard run to Arizona's 33-yard line. On second down, Hansen found Clemson for a 15-yard reception and the Buffs were in business.
It did not get much better for Arizona, as the Wildcats were forced into a three and out on its next drive. The UA tried a fake punt on fourth and three, but Tutogi was not able to pick up anything and the Wildcats turned it over.
Arizona forced a punt on Colorado's next drive, but CU stopped Arizona from getting anything going as well, as Bonano missed a 57-yard field goal.
Starting at its own 40-yard line, Hansen found Clemons for 29 yards and after numerous small gains, CU had a trick play in which Stewart found hansen for a 14-yard touchdown pass, as the extra point made it 34-10 and seemingly ended the game.
Arizona tried to stage a comeback when, near the end of the third quarter, Hansen threw a pass on his own 27-yard line that was intercepted by Tra'Mayne Bondurant and returned for a touchdown, as the extra point made it 34-17.
Arizona then forced a three and out and took over on its own 16-yard line with a 12-yard pass to Terrence Miller. On the next play, Foles connected with Crump for 18 yards and then Antolin followed with a 20-yard run to get to the CU 34. Antolin then gained four on the ground, Douglas nine in the air, and then Crump for ten. On the next play, Foles connected with Douglas for the 11-yard touchdown, as the two-point conversion failed and UA was down 34-23.
The momentum did not last long, however, as Stewart kept running with success, gaining carries of six yards, 31, and then a touchdown for 11, as the extra point made it 40-23 with 7:42 left.
Ka'Deem Carey later added a one-yard touchdown, but it was too little, too late as Arizona's comeback just could not be completed.
