Gibson will join Arizona staff

Rich Rodriguez is in the process of creating his coaching staff and will add Tony Gibson. Read on for a closer look at Arizona's new secondary coach.

Arizona has filled a position on its football staff, as it will name Pitt secondary coach Tony Gibson to the same position at Arizona.

Gibson has known current Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez since his Glenville State days, as he coached defensive backs. In addition, Gibson played for Rodriguez at Glenville State College as a defensive back and helped the team win two WVIAC championships.

Gibson was then the defensive backs coach at West Virginia and Michigan for Rodriguez. As defensive backs coach at West Virginia, Gibson coached eight All-Big East performers and had six of his players selected in the NFL Draft.

When Rodriguez was hired at Arizona, Gibson seemed the coach most likely to join him on Arizona's staff. The two have developed a special relationship and while Gibson was only at Pitt for one year, it makes sense for him to coach with Rodriguez, who is considered a close friend.

Not only that, but Gibson has experience coaching in Rodriguez's 3-3-5 scheme, which is considered to be important.
