Magee to be named offensive coordinator

Arizona will name former Michigan and Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Calvin Magee to the same role at Arizona. Read on to see his background and why this is considered to be a major get for Arizona.

Calvin Magee has will be named as offensive coordinator and running backs coach of Arizona in a move that may be surprising to some. Magee had a five-year deal at Pittsburgh and many originally believed that it would be difficult for Rodriguez to convince him to come to Arizona.

However, Rodriguez did just that and has now added a coach that has been instrumental to Rodriguez's success on offense.

Magee coached an All-Big East Conference performer at running back each of his seven seasons on the WVU staff. In addition, his running game rated among the top four nationally all three seasons as offensive coordinator.

He is considered to have his best season as a coordinator in 2007 when his offense at West Virginia was third in rushing offense, eighth in third-down efficiency, ninth in scoring offense and 15th in total offense.

Magee coached with Rodriguez at Michigan, where he also had the title of associate head coach. In his final season at Michigan, the Wolverines led the Big Ten and ranked eighth nationally in total offense with an average of 488.69 yards per game.

In addition, Magee will likely have a role in recruiting Florida, as his coaching career started at South Florida. Magee actually started as a tight ends coach before transitioning into a running backs coach and then running game coordinator.
