Now, he is seeing his recruiting attention increase because of it.
"Recruiting is going well," Sokol said. "I recently got offered by Arizona and Iowa. I just got back from my trip to Florida International and the week before that visited Cincinnati and enjoyed both those visits. I have two visits to Arizona and then Iowa coming up this week."
Arizona's contact with Sokol started last week and has moved rapidly. While he will not name any favorites, Sokol admits that the UA has a few factors in its favor.
"Arizona contacted me midweek last week," Sokol said. "Right now, the pitch from Arizona is that it is close to home and my family. From what I have heard, they are doing some pretty big things down there with building facilities and putting a lot of money into the program."
One concern with Arizona's recruiting of quarterbacks will be the style of offense that Rich Rodriguez has been known to run. However, Sokol says that Rodriguez has told him Arizona's offense will be tailored to the players' strengths.
"They have talked to me about the offense," Sokol said. "I know in his past offenses he has had a quarterback that is more of a running type at the helm of it. That is not really what I am because I am more of a pocket passer, drop back passer.
"The spread offense is for a passer or runner and he told me that the offense depends on what type of quarterback they have. He has told me that they like me a lot and the offense will be made to fit the players they have."
Sokol has a clear idea of how he would like to handle his recruitment and does not intend to make a decision until all of his visits are complete.
"I was thinking I was going to make a decision at the end of December," he said." I am not going to make a decision right after my Iowa visit just because of the fact that I do not want an emotional decision off a visit I just came off of. I want to take some time to evaluate all of my visits and all of the schools that have offered me."
So what is it that Sokol will be looking for on those visits?
"Honestly, the biggest thing it will come down to is where I fit in the best," he said. "Also where I believe will give me the best opportunity to make an impact early and put up some big numbers. I am looking towards the future. I want to play for a team that I will fit in with and will help me prepare to get to the next level and ultimately get to the NFL."
