Lopez enjoys official visit

Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite athlete Anthony Lopez took an official last weekend. Read on to see his thoughts on Rich Rodriguez, other recruits, and more.

Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite running back Anthony Lopez is one of a handful of recruits that visited Arizona this past weekend and, like the others, exited his visit with a positive impression.

"I visited Arizona last weekend and the visit was great," Lopez said. "I got to meet all of the new coaches and recruits coming in."

Lopez had talked to Rodriguez before the visit, but had an opportunity to meet him at length on his visit.

"He is a very laid back guy," Lopez said of Rodriguez. "He is a nice guy with good philosophies that seems to know what he is doing."

In addition, it seems that Arizona will recruit Lopez for offense like the previous staff did. Lopez played some linebacker his senior year, but his initial future is at running back.

"I am pretty sure I am going to come in as a running back," Lopez said. "Calvin Magee talked to me the whole weekend and he came in to my school Tuesday and talked to me about running backs in the offense."

In terms of Lopez's role in the offense, Magee told him that it is one that he is going to have to work hard to earn.

"Magee told me he is going to play the best guys he feels are going to be strong every play of the game and he is going to give me an opportunity," Lopez said. "I am excited to have him coach me and I think I fit in well. I feel I have the ability to adapt whenever I have to."

Even though other schools started to contact him again when Mike Stoops was let go as head coach, Lopez says that he never had second thoughts about where he was going to go to college.

"I was just waiting to see who they hired and I was going to go to Arizona anyway," Lopez said. "There was a good chance that I was always going to go to Arizona."

While on his visit, Lopez had an opportunity to meet numerous other commits and says that the group has developed a solid friendship.

"All of us have become really good friends and we connected well over the weekend," he said. "I am excited that most of the guys were down there and we will be working together this summer."
