"It was good to get some in-state love," Hood said. "I'm heading down there next weekend to see what they have to offer. I've only met coach Rodriguez once, but he seemed like a pretty good dude. He's really funny, high energy and a fun person to be around."
While the nation's 112th best defensive tackle remains a soft verbal commitment to Boston College, that hasn't stopped other schools besides Arizona from showing interest.
"I had a meeting today (Sunday) with ASU and they offered me," Hood said. "I don't have any plans to visit ASU, but I'll visit there very soon. I got offered by Arizona and I'm talking to Michigan State and Penn State. They've indicated they may be close to offering, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed."
Hood has taken only one other trip, a November 12th visit to Boston College, and he'll take another trip to Tucson to check out what Rodriguez and Arizona have to offer.
"I'm visiting Arizona this weekend starting on the 14th," Hood said. "I'm just going to be comparing it to the place I'm committed to, Boston College. I love Boston College, so I'm going to have to see if they can do anything better than them. I'll definitely be comparing the two. Arizona has to show me that it's the best place for me."
An Arizona native for the majority of his life, both Arizona and Arizona State are stepping up their recruitment of the two-star prospect. Despite the rivalry between the two, Hood insists he has no preference and therefore it will not be a factor if he decides to stay in-state.
"I grew up in Arizona for the most part," Hood said. "My step dad was a UA fan, but I grew up watching both because I knew some players on the team and stuff like that. I'm pretty neutral with both of them so that won't play into my decision; whatever is best for me is where I'll go."
With a visit to Arizona coming up and several other schools attempting to get involved at the last minute, look for Jaxon Hood's recruitment to come down to the wire.
"After my visit to Arizona I'm probably just going to wait it out and weigh my options," Hood said. "I'll make my decision hopefully by the end of January."
