Okafor keeping options open

Jahlil Okafor was impressive this past weekend at the Nike Extravaganza. Read on to see his thoughts on recruiting, where Arizona stands, and more.

If it was not for Shabazz Muhammad, 6-foot-8, 255-pound Chicago Whitney Young center Jahlil Okafor may have been the most impressive player at the Nike Extravaganza.

Okafor displayed fantastic touch and a solid turnaround hook and jumper that many college players would love to have, let alone a high school sophomore like Okafor.

"It is something I have been working on since about eighth grade," Okafor said of his post game. "I spent a lot of time with it over the summer and it is something I am really comfortable with."

His skills made it obvious why Arizona is recruiting him and Okafor had difficulty naming his school list because he is hearing from so many different ones.

"Right now it is going pretty slow because it is right in the middle of the college basketball season," Okafor said.

"Pretty much everybody (is recruiting me). Arizona, Duke, North Carolina, and Ohio State are coming at me hard. Michigan State, UConn, Georgetown, and a few others."

Still, Arizona is one school that has offered and actually has had the advantage of getting him on campus last year.

"I took the visit to Arizona a few months ago, but I have not talked to them in a while," Okafor said. "Coach Book (Richardson) came to one of my games a few weeks ago and I know that Arizona is still interested in me."

Okafor is not close to making a decision, but knows what he will be looking at as he tries to narrow his list of schools.

"I am looking at a school with a history of producing good big men, producing players that go to the NBA, and also a good academic program," Okafor said.
