The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker is considered to be one of the best outside backers in the country and recently reached double digit offers.
"Everything is going real well," Newby said. "I recently visited Maryland and West Virginia. My latest offers are South Carolina and Nebraska. Arizona also recently offered me and that came as a surprise."
Newby says that he has not had a ton of contact with Arizona, but did talk with a coach after finding out about the offer.
"I actually did not know about the offer until my football coach told me," Newby said. "After he told me Arizona offered, an assistant coach called me and we talked for a little while."
Due to the fact that Newby's recruitment is not slowing down any time soon, he says that he is in no rush to narrow it down.
"I am keeping everything open right now," he said. "No schools really stand out to me. I am trying to take any visit I can, so I can see which school is the best fit for me."
Arizona is the school that presents the furthest opportunity for Newby in terms of location and while he admits that it will play a factor in his decision, he is hesitant to say it will be one of the main ones.
"Location won't be a huge factor," he said. "I do not want to go too far because I would like my family to be able to see me play, but it won't be the deciding factor."
As far as what the deciding factor will be, Newby seems to have a pretty good idea.
"I am definitely looking for a school with good academics," he said. "I will be looking at the graduation rates and things like that."
