Arizona continues its pursuit of 2013 high school prospects and one area the staff will continue to put focus on is the offensive line. While UA has a lot of youth along the line, head coach Rich Rodriguez would like to add more depth and stability to the trenches.
One player the staff could potentially show interest in would be center Dane Crane from Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.). The 6-foot-3, 295-pound lineman hasn't heard from the UA staff quite yet, but he is certainly interested in hearing from the Wildcats in the near future.
"I haven't really been in talks with Arizona yet," Crane said. "Literally the only two Pac-12 schools that I haven't had any contact with are Arizona and Arizona State. I'd like to be in contact with those schools because I want to be all over the Pac-12."
While Crane would love to gain some interest from Arizona, he already has a few programs in pursuit of his services.
"I am taking a visit to Tennessee," Crane said. "I got an offer from Colorado, so I have talked with them. USC, UCLA and pretty much all of the Pac-12 schools, except the Arizona schools."
Crane is currently in the process of taking visits to schools all over the nation. He has several upcoming trips on the west coast in the near future.
"I went to the UCLA junior day," Crane said. "And then I am going out to Boulder in April. That's all I really have scheduled so far. I think I am going San Diego State soon too, but I am not sure when."
Being a California product, Crane has been hearing plenty from the other programs in the Pac-12. He definitely has serious interest in playing in his home conference, but isn't opposed to listening to offers from other regions.
"I like all the schools in the Pac-12," Crane said. "UCLA, USC, Washington and Arizona. Outside of the Pac-12, Tennessee, TCU, San Diego State. That's pretty much it for right now.
UA may offer Crane soon, but it hasn't quite happened yet. The big man would welcome one with open arms as it seems the Wildcats could end up as one of his favorites.
"That would be a very good offer," Crane said. "Arizona is a school I definitely want an offer from just to get out there and take a look and put it on a list and kind of rank it, but I definitely want to start getting in contact with the Arizona schools."
Crane is garnering interest from several schools that are relatively close to home, but the high school junior doesn't have any requirements when it comes to the conference or region he wants to play in.
"Not really," Crane said. "I kind of want to take a lot of visits and whatever I feel is most suitable for me and for what I do and what I am looking for in a school. That's where I am probably going to end up."
As for when a decision will be made, Crane would like to choose some time in 2012 rather than drag his process out until signing day in 2013.
"I don't think I am going to be one of these signing day guys who just has a fiasco and waits until the last day," Crane said. "But I am thinking maybe summer, maybe even during the season. I don't think I want to go through January or February."
