Arizona's offense was quiet in the first third of the game but opened up the scoring in the bottom of the 4th as Trent Gilbert continued his hot hitting of late, doubling to right field, scoring Johnny Field and giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
In the 5th, Joseph Maggi hit a liner to centerfield on a 0-2 count, scoring Riley Moore.
The Wildcats broke the game open in the 6th inning thanks in large part to a Seth Mejias-Brean triple that scored two.
Gilbert followed with his second RBI hit of the night and extended the Wildcats lead to 5-0 and pushing the game out of reach.
Freshman starter Lucas Long (2-0) was very impressive in his first career start for Arizona. He went 6 and 2/3 innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out 7.
Fellow freshman Stephen Manthei was a force out of the pen, lasting 2 1/3 innings and striking out 2 while not allowing a base runner.
The Wildcats offense continued to scorch the ball around the ballpark as eight out of nine in the batting order recorded at least one hit.
