Wildcats stay alive

Arizona was able to defeat UCLA on Thursday night. Read on for the complete recap of the game.

With its season on the line, Arizona came into Thursday's UCLA game as an underdog.

It came out of it as the 66-58 winner over the Bruins and the team that will live to play another day.

Arizona jumped out to a 4-2 lead behind a free-throw by Kyle Fogg and three-pointer by Solomon Hill. Hill then hit another three to give Arizona the five point lead before a Lazeric Jones jumper cut it to three with 14:15 left in the first half. Josh Smith then got his first basket, but a Kyryl Natyazhko jumper forced Ben Howland to call timeout with Arizona up 9-6 and 12:29 left in the half.

Hill and Perry then scored consecutive baskets before Jones hit a free-throw. Fogg then came right back and nailed a three-pointer off a turnover, as an offensive rebound by Smith cut Arizona's lead to 16-9 with 7:41 left in the first half. The teams then exchanged baskets before Hill hit another three to give Arizona its biggest lead of the game at 21-11.

Travis Wear got it down to single digits with a basket and a foul, as Arizona led by seven with 4:35 left. Jerime Anderson added a bucket to cut the lead down to five and try to get some momentum for the Bruins, but Fogg proceeded to answer with two free throws. However, Jones came right back with a three-pointer and cut the lead to four with about three minutes left in the half. A turnover led to Anderson cutting the lead to two, but Hill responded with going one of two from the line.

It seemed like the Bruins had momentum after Travis Wear hit a baseline jumper, but Perry was able to come up with a three-point play to keep the lead at 27-23. Hill was able to extend the lead to six before the half ended and the Wildcats went into halftime up six.

Fogg started the second half with a three-pointer but Travis Wear came back and scored four points before Fogg answered with two, but was matched by Jones. The teams then exchanged baskets as Arizona built a seven-point lead with 15:49 left before Smith made a layup to cut it to five coming out of a timeout.

The scoring quieted down a but until Perry hit two free throws to give the Wildcats the 41-35 lead with 11:39 left in the second half. Not too long after, Smith picked up his fifth foul and Perry was able to hit two free throws to extend the lead. However, Norman Powell and Anderson hit layups to cut Arizona's lead to one and force Sean Miller to call timeout with 9:38 left.

Hill was able to knock down two free throws to extend Arizona's lead to three, but Anderson and Tyler Lamb came back with easy baskets to give the Bruins the 46-45 lead with 7:54 left in the second half. The teams exchanged baskets before Fogg was able to hit a jumper and Hill nailed two at the free-throw line. However, a three-pointer by Anderson tied the game at 51 with six minutes to go in regulation.

Hill then made two free throws and after a miss at the line from Travis Wear, Johnson made two more to give Arizona the four-point lead and Angelo Chol came up with a three-point play to extend the lead to seven with 4:43 left. Jones was able to get two points back at the line, but then put Johnson at the line as well with 3:50 left and he hit only one of two to put the lead at six.

Perry hit two free throws after fouling out Travis Wear and the UA led by eight with under three minutes left. Jones was able to get in the lane about a minute later and the Bruins got within six with 1:25 left in regulation. Arizona then got a shot clock violation with 49 seconds left and Anderson was fouled, making one of two to get within five. However, Perry missed one of two free throws, keeping UCLA within two possessions.

Jones was fouled with 34 seconds left and made both of his free throw attempts, as the Bruins proceeded to foul Hill, who made both of his free throw attempts. With Arizona up 64-58, UCLA missed a shot and Hill was fouled, clinching the game at the line.
