The class of 2015 guard is seeing his name gain some steam in Southern California, but has a chance to see his attention become more national once he hits the AAU circuit this week.
Barefield knows that his recruitment could pick up, but says that he is choosing not to focus on it too much.
"I want to focus on basketball and getting better," Barefield said. "I'm really not paying a ton of attention to recruiting right now."
Still, numerous schools have seen Barefield in action and he has taken notice of the schools that have shown interest in him.
"I see the schools that come to watch my games or see me workout, but I don't let it get to my head and I keep working hard," he said.
"Washington, UNLV, and UConn are three schools I am hearing from. USC has also come to see me a lot and UCLA has come to watch me also."
Barefield has also noticed interest from Arizona and says that the Wildcats could be a legitimate option should the interest pick up.
"Arizona would also interest me," he said. "They are one of my favorite schools. I like their style of play and the players they have gotten."
For those who have not seen Barefield, he says that his biggest strength is his ability to play two positions.
"I like to push and have a fast paced game, but at the same time I can stop the tempo and run the team," he said. "I feel I can play the shooting guard, but also the point guard efficiently."
