Matthews excited about offer

Arizona offered Michigan guard E.C. Matthews earlier in the week. Read on to see what he thinks of the offer, how it came about, and more.

As the spring evaluation period ended, Arizona continued to offer players and E.C. Matthews is the latest prospect with an Arizona offer.

Matthews is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound 2013 combo guard from Michigan (Romulus) who saw his stock rise with a good showing this past weekend at the second Nike EYBL session in Hampton, VA. He is playing with The Family, who is currently 7-2 in the EYBL with Matthews averaging 12.6 points per game.

He played well enough in front of the Arizona coaching staff and he knows he is truly fortunate to gain an offer from the Wildcats.

"It feels good," said Matthews. "I feel really blessed. I know they are a school that really doesn't offer just anybody, so for me to get an offer is a great thing."

Arizona is not the only offer that Matthews received after EYBL Hampton as both Iowa and Creighton offered as well. Matthews is also hearing from Oregon, Virginia, Michigan, Xavier, DePaul, UNLV, USC, Rhode Island and Dayton. The Wildcats will continue to monitor Matthews and he and Miller have had a conversation as recently as Thursday.

"He told me he likes the way I play and that I will fit well in his system," said Matthews of Miller. "He said playing time is there because I fit in the system and he was telling me about some of the little things. The tradition, the arena and how they get stuff from Nike that most schools don't get."

Being from Michigan, many kids do not know about west coast schools, but Matthews says he has paid attention to Arizona.

"I have watched them quite a few times on TV," Matthews explained. "I know that a lot of great players have come out of there and play in the NBA."

Much will be the same for Arizona fans, who have recently just heard about Matthews being a pretty good basketball player. The Michigan native says he likes his versatility and having the ball in his hands.

"I am a combo guard, but I love to play point guard because I like to have the ball in my hands," said Matthews. "Other than that I can shoot the ball, I like to rebound, and play defense."

It is still early for Matthews, who hasn't taken any unofficial visits to any schools at this point, but is hoping to do so in the near future. Arizona will definitely be a school he takes a visit to and though it is early in the process, the Wildcats are at the top.

"Arizona is my favorite right now but I haven't really thought about it much," said Matthews.
