Wildcats lead for lineman

Arizona is doing well recruiting defensive lineman Luca Bruno. Read on to see just how well, what schools Bruno likes, and more.

Oak Park (Calif.) defensive line prospect Luca Bruno has eight scholarship offers so far, and is hoping to pick up a few more before the end of the summer. He currently holds offers from Arizona, Oregon State, and Hawaii, among others.

As things sit now, Arizona is the leader for Bruno's services. However, things can change if USC, UCLA, or TCU get in the picture for the young lineman.

"Being from California, I'm naturally drawn to USC and UCLA," Bruno said. "I've also been big on TCU for a while now. If any of those offer, they will probably jump ahead of the U of A."

Arizona isn't out of the recruitment yet, but things will get harder for it if one of those three schools offers Bruno.

The 2013 recruit has visited Tucson to see the campus and came away impressed with the scenery and the coaches.

"The campus was beautiful and the coaches were really awesome," he said. "I got to meet all the coaches and I got to see how they run football. Coach Kirelawich's standpoint on how to coach is just good, mean, hardcore football. That's what I'm looking for in a school.

"I also got to meet their training staff. We have a lot in common with the training. Those are the two main things in my recruitment, coaches and training."

Bruno currently plays in a 4-3 defense, but is looking for a school that runs a three-man front. He wants to go to a school that will allow him to learn to play all along the defensive line.

In addition, Bruno wants to play defensive end and defensive tackle and actually prefers if he were in a situation that would allow him to do a little of both.

One reason for this is that he wants to broaden his skill set. Bruno has already started doing this in high school by studying game tape and looking for weaknesses in his game.

"I've been watching tons of film, looking at myself and my teammates," he said. "I'm trying to study as much as I can, so I can just learn more about the ins and outs of football.

"I noticed that I'm lacking in agility and hand speed. As far as agility, I'm good at running one way, but some times I'll get juked out, so I want to work on changing direction. My coaches all say that I've got a really good motor and I can just keep going, so I'm sure that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to."

Bruno plans on attending football camps at TCU, UCLA, and USC this summer. He also intends on visiting Arizona's campus again before making his final decision.

"I'm not going to attend any camps that Arizona hosts, but I really liked the campus down there," he said. "I'll try to go there during the summer, but I definitely want to visit the U of A again."
