Hopkins looking at options

Jaron Hopkins was recently offered by Arizona, but it has not caused him to speed up the process. Read on for his thoughts on the Wildcats, when he wants to decide, and more.

The state of Arizona has never been known as a hotbed of high school basketball talent, but every few years a player emerges who possesses high Division 1 skills.

UA has done a tremendous job over the years of keeping the elite in-state talent home, and the current UA coaching staff is focused on the best high school player in Arizona for 2013, Basha High School guard, Jaron Hopkins.

Although Hopkins has a nice upside, he is a difficult prospect to project to the next level.

"Different schools are recruiting me at different positions," Hopkins said. "Some like me as a point and others like me at the two."

With the AAU season under way, recruiters will have plenty of opportunities to watch Hopkins.

"The AAU season has been going well," Hopkins said. "I'm trying to become a better player and shooter while also trying to help our (Arizona Magic) team get better. Our team has been a little up and down, but we're getting better."

Even though Hopkins will be busy this summer, he expects to start looking closer at colleges.

"I need to examine my choices, but I have 12 offers right now," Hopkins said. "Arizona, USC, Colorado, and Washington State are the ones that immediately come to mind."

Hopkins has had plenty of contact with Arizona, as Sean Miller has discussed his role.

"I definitely like Arizona," Hopkins said. "I talked with Coach Miller recently and it went well. He basically told me they feel I can play both back court positions.

"They like the fact that I can play multiple positions because of my size, and he said they feel that I can give them some lineup flexibility."

Hopkins figures to take his time before ending the recruiting process.

"I'm not sure where I'm even going to take my visits," Hopkins said. "I want to take all of them, but I just want to do my homework before selecting which schools to visit.

"I'm going to sit down with my dad in the near future and get all that figured out."
