The Irvine (Calif.) Woodbridge High School product is counting down the days until he departs for Tucson.
"I can't wait to get down there," Kelly said. "It's the next step for me as a person and player. I head out June 23 and that's pretty much all I know. I don't know who I'm rooming with or anything like that, but the main thing is fall camp will start really soon."
Kelly is already thinking about his role at the next level.
"The coaches feel I'm best suited at defensive end, and I agree with that," Kelly said. "They feel my size, strength and quickness will help me make an impact because I can get after the quarterback and I'm also getting better against the run."
kelley is ready to compete for playing time, but is unsure of where it will wind up.
"I don't know if I'll play or redshirt this year," he said. "The coaches want to see how everyone looks before making that decision. If they want me to play, I'm obviously okay with that.
"I'm also okay if they want me to sit out a year and get stronger and become a better student of the game."
Although Kelly is anxious for fall camp to start, he is continuing to work hard each day.
"In the meantime, I've just been working hard," Kelly said. "I've been trying to get stronger and quicker along with increasing my stamina.
"The transition to college is huge for everyone and I just want to make it as easy on myself as possible."
