Woodson excited about commitment

Pennsylvania quarterback Tommy Woodson is headed to Arizona. Read on to see why he made the decision, how he likes the coaching staff, and more.

It is no secret that Arizona wanted to add at least one more quarterback to its 2013 class and on Sunday it did just that.

6-foot-0, 200-pound Monroeville (Penn.) Gateway quarterback Tommy Woodson has a long-standing relationship with the coaching staff and says it played a major role in his decision.

"I just know that that I won't find another staff with how close I was with them because of how long they were recruiting me," Woodson said. "They were the first to offer me and I felt like I had to do it and that was my number one school."

Woodson camped at Michigan while Rich Rodriguez was there and also had plenty of contact with the coaching staff at their previous colleges.

"Coach Tony Gibson is a great person," Woodson said. "I talked to him when he was Pitt last year and he talked to me at Arizona.

"He is a coach that cares about my future and not only talks to me about football, but also about life."

In addition, Woodson is familiar with the Arizona offense and feels like he can step in with an understanding right away.

"The offense we run in high school is the exact thing they run at Arizona," he said. "I have seen the success the coaching staff has had with Denard Robinson and Pat White and that is something I think I can do."

In somewhat of a somewhat of a surprise, Woodson actually says that the current depth chart did not play a role in his decision.

"It would be nice if I can come in and learn," he said. "When my number is called I have to be ready and concentrate on what I would be doing during spring football."

In terms of other visits, Woodson says it is not out of the question, but also not likely at this point.

"I will probably take an official visit to Arizona as soon as I can," he said. "Anything can happen, but I probably will not visit any other schools because I am happy with my decision."
