Although this season could be a struggle, the UA staff is hitting the recruiting trail attempting to add playmakers to the defensive front.
One of the staff's top priorities is Oak Park (Calif.) defensive lineman Luca Bruno.
"There are three schools that really stand out," Bruno said. "I like TCU, Arizona and Oregon State. TCU hasn't offered yet, but I think they're getting close. Arizona and Oregon State have offered though."
Bruno has been recruited by Arizona for a while and has been able to develop a strong relationship with the coaching staff.
"The Arizona coaching staff has been recruiting me very well," Bruno said. "The coaches are all really cool and they've been in constant contact with me basically letting me know how much they want me to go down there.
"They think because of my strength I'm in a position to make an early impact at the nose, but they also believe that as I get in better shape and more athletic, I will be able to move around to any of the down lineman positions."
Bruno believes the hard work he's putting in this summer will pay off in the coming years.
"I spent last year working on my tackling and speed and I definitely improved in those two areas," Bruno said. "This summer I'm really focusing on improving my hand speed, leverage and agility. Those three aspects are very important for becoming a good lineman and I'm trying my best to improve in all three."
Bruno doesn't plan on taking all five official visits, but that doesn't mean he's close to making a decision.
"I don't really have any time frame for a decision," Bruno said. "I want to take a few visits and then make my decision; I'm just not sure when I will take those visits though."
