Dastrup's recruitment gaining steam

Payton Dastrup is one of Arizona's top targets for the 2014 class. Read on for his thoughts on Arizona, his overall recruitment, and more.

Every few years an elite high school basketball prospect comes out of the state of Arizona. The next top prospect figures to be Mesa Mountain View center Payton Dastrup.

Dastrup is not resting on his reputation and is looking to improve on his already impressive skill set.

"The main thing I want to work on this summer is being more aggressive and making power moves in the post," Dastrup said. "A lot of it has to do with having the proper mindset and that's something I want to work on."

Many schools are already interested in the junior big man.

"There are a lot of schools I'm interested in," Dastrup said. "Off the top of my head, I like Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, BYU, Utah, Arizona and the rest of the Pac-12."

Expect Arizona to remain in the middle of Dastrup's recruitment until the very end.

"I had a great visit to UA," Dastrup said. "The coaching staff is very straight forward, but personable at the same time. Arizona has a great reputation and legacy from the Coach Olson era and Coach Miller is continuing that."

It wasn't just the coaching staff that impressed Dastrup on his visit.

"The facilities blew me away," Dastrup said. "The Richard Jefferson Gymnasium is amazing. The weight room is nice and the players lounge is really cool.

"I was very impressed by all the guys on the team. A lot of them are young, talented players who are just good guys."

Dastrup plans on taking his time before making a decision.

"I'm not exactly sure when I will decide on a college," Dastrup said. "If I had to guess, it will be sometime right before my senior season or possibly during the season."
