Local 2014 athlete enjoys visit

Matt Bushman will likely be one of the top players in the state for 2014. Read on to see how a recent visit went, his thoughts on Arizona, and more.

Sabino High School has been the top producer of college football talent in Tucson over the last 20 years.

Boasting a handful of Division I prospects, the current squad is among the most talented in recent memory.

Junior tight end Matt Bushman is one of those elite prospects. He visited Arizona for the season opener and came away impressed.

"I had a good time at the Toledo game," Bushman said. "I went with a couple other people. The atmosphere was fun, and it was nice to be around the new coaching staff and just watch things play out.

"It was an interesting game; you could see how close they were to breaking out, and after the Oklahoma State game you can see things are definitely headed in the right direction. They're fun to watch."

Utah is the only school to offer Bushman, but that figures to change.

"I've got the one offer," Bushman said. "But I'm getting attention from schools like Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, and California."

Bushman says that the UA coaching staff has made it clear what it wants him to work on.

"The Arizona coaching staff wants me to continue to put on weight and work on being more physical, and those are two things I'm working hard at," he said. "I'm working hard and they're monitoring my progress."

Considering Bushman is currently only a junior, he says that he is currently focusing on other things.

"My top priority right now is to help my high school team win," he said. "Sabino has a lot of tradition and we're trying to add to it. Right now, we're 3-0 and I'm catching everything thrown to me.

"We've played well, but there are some things we can get better at. If we take care of our assignments, we will be fine. All the recruiting attention is nice, but I'm focused on the high school season at the moment."
