Arizona basketball continued its Red and Blue game tradition on Sunday.

The Blue team consisted of Brandon Ashley, Solomon Hill, Angelo Chol, Nick Johnson, Jordin Mayes, Matt Korcheck, Jacob Hazzard, and Drew Mellon.

The Red squad consisted of Kevin Parrom, Grant Jerrett, Kaleb Tarczewski, Gabe York, Mark Lyons, T.J. McConnell, and Max Wiepking.

It was an exciting opportunity to see the entire team in action and the Red team came out on top 62-58.

Red got on the board first with a layup by Mark Lyons about two minutes into the scrimmage. Not too long after, Kevin Parrom got fouled and scored two more for Red to make it 4-0. Blue was finally able to get its first bucket when Brandon Ashley drove to the basket and made a layup to make it 4-2 with about ten minutes to go in the first half.

Walk-on Max Wiepking added a three-pointer for the Red squad and Grant Jerrett added one of his own to get Red up 10-2 with a little over eight minutes left in the half. Jordin Mayes then ended the run with a short jumper to make it 10-4 before the first stoppage of play at the 7:45 mark of the first half.

Solomon Hill then got on the board for the Blue team and Chol followed with a free-throw to cut the lead to three before Jerrett was able to come right back with two free throws. Nick Johnson then answered with a three-pointer with a little over six minutes to go, but Lyons made a layup to bring the lead to 14-10.

However, Johnson nailed his second three-pointer of the game before Jerrett came back with a hook in the lane. Lyons added two free throws shortly after and then scored on a layup as the Red team went up 20-13 with about five minutes left in the half. Matt Korcheck was able to get a dunk about 30 seconds later, but Jerrett once again scored for the Red team.

The Blue team cut the lead with a shot by Hill and three-point play with Mayes, making the score 22-20 with 2:24 left in the first half. Two free throws by Hill with a little under two minutes left tied the game at 24. The tie game did not last long, however, as Parrom was able to hit a three-pointer from the corner the next time down the court and Lyons added one of his own to bring the lead to six. With 35 seconds to to go, a shot by Ashley cut it to 28-24 going into the half.

Nick Johnson started the half with a three-pointer, but Jerrett answered with a tip-in off a rebound to being the lead back to three. Tarczewski then scored his first bucket not too long after and after a free-throw by Chol, Parrom scored from behind the arc to give the Red team a 35-28 lead with about ten minutes left.

Johnson scored for Blue, but Lyons answered right back with an easy layup and Jerrett added two of his own to bring the lead to nine.

Ashley and Tarczewski exchanged baskets before Parrom added another three and a three-point play off a dunk to extend the Red lead to 47-32 with about eight minutes left.

Johnson tried to bring Blue back with a three-pointer off a timeout and another bucket to force the Red team to call timeout down up 10 with seven minutes left.

Jerrett was able to score out of the timeout and Chol answered with a jumper of his own before Hill was able to get a breakaway dunk and cut the lead to nine with about six minutes left.

John then hit a jumper to bring Blue within seven before Parrom hit yet another three-pointer and Tarczewski got a hook shot in the lane, as Red went up 55-43 with 4:35 left in the first half.

A free-throw by Hill cut it to 11 and then he hit a jumper to try to start a run. After the jumper, the Blue team got a steal and Ashley was able to pick up a three-point play to make it 55-49 with about three minutes left.

Thirty seconds later, York hit a three-pointer and the game was basically over at that point.
