He played well this summer and is receiving a lot of interest from schools around the country, including UA.
"I was happy with how Charles played this summer," said Nicole Matthews, Charles' mother. "He played so much basketball this summer, especially against older kids and it really showed him what he needs to get better at.
"He sees the court well and has a solid understanding of the game, but he needs to get stronger and develop his conditioning."
Matthews' play this summer has made him the object of a number of schools' affection.
"There are a number of different schools recruiting him, but there are a few that are recruiting him pretty hard," said Nicole Matthews. "Providence has been recruiting him the hardest and they've been very diligent in dealing with us. Southern Methodist, Illinois and Arizona are also on the radar."
The Matthews family views Arizona in a positive light.
"The coaches have been in touch and told us that Charles has an offer," said Nicole Matthews. "We like what we've heard, but we would like to find out a lot more of what the school has to offer. We're definitely interested in hearing more from the Arizona staff."
Once Matthew's high school season is over, he plans on taking some visits.
"We want to take the next step and start looking at schools," Nicole Matthews said. "We'll probably get loaded up in the family car and take it around the county. We for sure want to check out Providence, SMU, and it would be nice to get out to Arizona.
"Academics are very important to us. Charles is looking at majoring in finance or culinary arts, so we want to find a place with programs he feels comfortable with."
