Westlake (Calif.) defensive tackle Tony Mekari hasn't had time to make the trip to Tucson, but the UA commit has been keeping an eye on the Cats.
"I've been following them closely," Mekari said. "It's amazing how well coached they are. USC is one of the most talented teams in the country and to see UA beat them soundly in the second half really makes you take notice.
"The other thing that was really impressive was the fact that they committed a lot of mistakes and we're still able to beat USC. To do this in Coach Rodriguez' first year is impressive and definitely a sign of things to come."
In light of UA's big win, Mekari is especially excited to hear from the Wildcat coaching staff soon.
"They're in touch on a weekly basis when they are allowed," Mekari said. "They're great. They just check in on how I'm doing academically and athletically and they just talk about the future of the program. This past week they had their biggest win of the year, so I'm excited to talk with them."
Mekari isn't taking his official visit to Arizona until December, but that won't stop him from seeing the Cats in person before then.
"I'm going to make it up to their game against UCLA this week," Mekari said. "I've had a pretty busy schedule with my season going on and I didn't want to wait until December because I wouldn't be able to see them play in person."
