Arizona easily wins second exhibition

Arizona easily defeated Chico State in its final exhibition on Tuesday. Read on for a complete recap of the game.

Arizona's second exhibition looked similar to the first, as the UA defeated Chico State 98-60 at McKale on Tuesday night.

Amir Carraway opened up the scoring for Chico State, but Arizona got on the board on the next possession with a free-throw by Kaleb Tarczewski. Nick Johnson then added a layup and Mark Lyons scored two consecutive baskets that were matched by a three-pointer and two free throws by Solomon Hill, as Arizona was up 12-2 with 15:35 left in the first half.

Both teams then exchanged baskets before a Nate Appel free-throw cut the lead to nine and a Mike Rosaroso two-pointer off an offensive rebound forced Sean Miller to call timeout with Arizona up 14-7 with under 14 minutes to go in the first half. Jordin Mayes, Angelo Chol, and Tarczewski were able to score before Jason Conrad hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 20-9 before a media timeout.

Arizona got a few free throws to go up 23-11 with 10:21 left in the half before Lyons hit a three from the corner and Arizona got its biggest lead of the night. Sean Park matched the three-pointer for Chico State, but Brandon Ashley was able to get on the board with an offensive rebound and layup. Hill then added a basket of his own and Grant Jerrett hit a free throw to go up 31-14 with a little over eight minutes left.

Rosaroso tried to get something going with a three-point play, but Kevin Parrom and Jerrett were able to hit consecutive three-pointers to force a timeout and put the UA up 37-17 with 6:22 left in the half. Gabe York then scored his first points of the game to extend the lead to 22 points before the teams exchanged baskets and Arizona kept a 21-point lead with 3:47 left in the half.

The teams basically exchanged baskets to end the half, as Arizona went into halftime up 47-23, led by 13 points from Hill and 11 from Lyons.

The half started with a basket by Carraway and Conrad before two free throws by Johnson, as Arizona called a timeout up 49-27 with 18:05 left in the second half. Carraway scored shortly after to cut the deficit to 20, but Lyons answered seconds later only to be matched once again by Carraway. Tarczewski then scored his fifth point of the night before Carraway hit a three-pointer from the corner.

Jerrett was able to give Arizona a three-point play of his own before Carraway scored once again to keep the Arizona lead at 20. A bucket by Ashley and four free throws by Hill extended the lead to 64-39 with 11:55 left.

The lead basically hovered around 25 points until Tarczewski was able to pick up a dunk and Jerrett hit a free-throw to extend the lead to 75-46 with about eight minutes left.

The rest of the game played out as normal, as Chico State never really made a run and Arizona was able to get balanced scoring.

Mark Lyons led Arizona with 20 points followed by 18 from Solomon Hill.
