Arizona started on its own 25-yard line with a 15-yard run by Ka'Deem Carey. After a defensing holding penalty on the Sun Devils, the drive stalled with a two-yard loss by Carey and a Matt Scott sack. Arizona was able to get to fourth and four after an 11-yard pass to Dan Buckner, but chose to punt it.
ASU took the ball on its own 14-yard line with a one-yard run by Cameron Marshall followed by a run for six yards. On third down, the UA defense was able to force an incomplete pass the Wildcats took over on their own 31-yard line after the punt.
On the ensuing drive, ASU forced a third down, but was called for pass interference, giving Arizona the ball on its own 40-yard line. Scott started the drive with a three-yard run and then followed it up with a four-yard completion to Garic Wharton. Carey then ran for four yards, a gain that broke the Arizona single season rushing record.
Scott found Richards for nine yards and a pass interference call on the next play put the Wildcats at the ASU 25-yard line. After a one-yard gain by Carey, Scott found Wharton for 15 yards. Carey then gained seven on the ground and was able to score from one yard out two plays later. Unfortunately, the extra-point missed and the Wildcats' lead was at 6-0 with 7:59 left.
ASU got the ball on its own 26-yard line and started the drive with a four-yard run by Marshall, but lost the yardage and then some with a holding call. After Marshall's nine-yard run on the ensuing second down, Arizona forced a punt on third and eight to take over on its own 20-yard line.
Scott was able to gain ten yards on the ground, but Arizona could not get anything going besides a four-yard run by Daniel Jenkins and had to punt, giving ASU the ball on its own 14. The Sun Devils were able to get their first first-down of the game with a nine-yard run by D.J. Foster and followed it with another nine-yard gain on the ground. Two plays later, Taylor Kelly found Darwin Rogers for a ten-yard completion and after a seven-yard run by Marion Grice, ASU was in Arizona territory. However, the drive then stalled and Arizona forced another punt.
Starting on his own 19-yard line, Carey gained three yards on the ground. Two plays later, Scott hit Tyler Slavin for a 19-yard grab and Carey followed it with a six-yard rush. Scott then gained six yards on the ground and two plays later, Carey was able to pick up to pick up two yards to end the first quarter with Arizona up 6-0. Scott was unable to complete a pass on third and eight and the Wildcats punted once again.
The UA defense continued to impress, as Marshall was forced into a three-yard loss before a 12-yard pass to Chris Coyle. On third and one, Marshall was stopped for no gain and the Sun Devils had to punt again.
Arizona started on its own 20-yard line and got a 36-yard run by Carey followed by a 12-yard run to Arizona State's 32-yard line. Scott made a mistake two plays later, however, as he threw an interception off his back foot, giving ASU the ball on its own 25-yard line with 11:55 left in the half.
Foster started the drive with an eight-yard run and then Jamal Miles caught a pass for seven yards. Two plays later, Rashad Ross caught a 12-yard pass and after a sack for a loss of five, Grice found numerous holes and scored from 52 yards out, as the extra point made it 7-6 with 9:42 left.
Scott threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage and ASU took over on its own 38-yard line with a 13-yard run by Grice. Two plays later, Foster ran for 9n and Grice followed it up with eight on the ground. Grice then caught an 18-yard pass from Kelly and Arizona was able to forced third and 12. On that third down, Miles caught a 12-yard pass to get to the Arizona three-yard line. On first down, Miles easily ran it in and the extra point made it 14-6 with 6:16 left.
Arizona took over on its own 25-yard line looking for an answer and Carey gained one-yard on first down. After a Scott incomplete pass, Wharton gained eight yards, but the UA was forced to punt on fourth and one.
The Sun Devils took over from their own eight-yard line with a personal foul on Shaquille Richardson. Arizona forced a third and nine a few plays later, but Kelly found Ross for 14 yards and the first down. Grice picked up two yards and after an incomplete pass, Kelly found Miles for 10 yards and the first down. After an incomplete pass on first down from the Arizona 45-yard line, Kelly hit Alonzo Agwuenu for 14 yards. On the next play, Agwuenu fumbled and Marquis Flowers recovered it on Arizona's own 23.
Carey gained 18 yards on the first play from scrimmage and Scott then proceeded to hit Wharton for a 17-yard completion to the ASU 42. Carey then gained 15 yards on the ground before Carey was stopped for no gain. Carey was then stopped for a loss and the Sun Devils were able to force a third and 13 with 36 seconds left in the first half.
Scott appeared to throw another pick, but Arizona kept the ball due to a roughing the passer call on ASU. Arizona threw an incomplete pass and settled for a 33-yard field goal that was good, as ASU led 14-9 at the half.
ASU started on its own 25-yard line with a five-yard pass to Miles. Two plays later, on third down, Foster caught a 29-yard pass for the first down. Three plays later, Kelly picked up 24 yards on the ground to get to the Arizona nine-yard line. The defense was able to hold ASU to a 26-yard field goal, as the Sun Devils led 17-9 with 12:29 left in the third quarter.
Needing a score, Arizona took the ball on its own 17 with a five-yard run by Carey. Two plays later, Arizona drew a pass interference call and Carey followed it up with a five-yard run. Scott then gained four on the ground and Carey matched it before Hill caught a nine-yard pass two plays later. On the next play, Jenkins ran it for 12 yards and two plays later, Hill caught a 22-yard pass for the touchdown, as the extra point made it 17-16 with 9:22 left.
Arizona was able to force a three and out and took over on its own 32-yard line. The drive started with an incomplete pass, but Jenkins picked up the first down on the next play with a 13-yard run. Jenkins then ran for seven yards before Scott gained two on the ground. Jenkins was able to pick up the first down with a two-yard run and Scott hit Wharton for a five-yard gain on first down. After an incomplete pass, Scott found Wharton for an acrobatic 40-yard touchdown and John Bonano faked the extra-point for the two-point conversion, as Arizona took the 24-17 lead with 6:23 left in the third quarter.
On ASU's first play from scrimmage, a bad exchange led to a fumble and Arizona took over on the Sun Devils' 24-yard line. Jenkins gained three on the first play from scrimmage before Scott kept it and gained eight yards for the first down. Jenkins proceeded to gain nine yards, but ASU forced a third and five. On that third down, ASU got a stop and Arizona settled for a 23-yard field goal that made it 27-17 with 4:14 left.
Grice was able to gain nine yards on his first carry from the 25-yard line and Foster picked up the first down on the next play. However, the Arizona defense held ASU on third and short, as the Sun Devils punted to give the Wildcats the ball on their own 11.
The drive started with a nine-yard run by Scott and two plays later, he gained 17 on the ground. Scott threw an incomplete pass and then drive stalled with two runs by Jenkins to end the third quarter. Arizona punted to start the fourth, giving ASU the ball on its own 23-yard line.
Three plays into the drive, Kelly found Kevin Ozier for 18 yards and two plays later, ran for 10. Coyle then caught an eight-yard pass and Mikes picked up the first down with nine on the ground. The drive then stalled and the Sun Devils settled for a 39-yard field goal that made it 27-20 with 11:51 left in the fourth quarter.
Arizona started on its own 25 and three plays into the drive, Carey gained 36 yards on the ground. Four plays later, after an Arizona first down, Matt Scott fumbled to give ASU the ball on its own 44-yard line.
Grice ran for seven yards on the first play from scrimmage and then got a combined 21 yards on the next two carries before eventually running it in from four yards out for the touchdown a few plays later, as the extra point tied the game at 27 with 7:17 left.
ASU forced a three and out and came up with a punt block to take control at Arizona's eight-yard line with 5:38 left. On the first play from scrimmage, Marshall ran it in as the extra point made it 34-27.
Arizona started on its own 25-yard line with a 16-yard pass to Johnny Jackson and Scott found Hill three plays later for a nine-yard gain and first down. However, ASU forced fourth down shortly after and Scott threw his third interception of the night. ASU would capitalize on it with a one-yard touchdown run by Michael Eubank and although Arizona would score on its ensuing drive, it was unable to recover the onside kick, thus ending the game.
