Wildcats do it again

Arizona fell behind early, but once again came back in impressive fashion, as the Wildcats defeated the Buffs Thursday night at McKale. Read on for a complete recap of how the Wildcats got it done.

Arizona fell behind early and it looked like the Wildcats would never recover. However, the UA somehow was able to comeback and defeated Colorado 92-83 Thursday night at McKale.

Xavier Johnson started the scoring for Colorado with a bucket and Kaleb Tarczewski was able to answer for Arizona. Spencer Dinwiddie then beat Mark Lyons off the dribble and Lyons responded with a three-pointer. After a basket by Josh Scott, Brandon Ashley made a free-throw before an Askia Booker three gave CU the 9-6 lead with 15:40 left in the first half.

Dinwiddie scored out of the timeout to extend the CU lead to five before Parrom made a free-throw. However, Sabatino Chen scored and Booker followed with two free-throws to put Colorado up 15-7 with about 11 minutes left in the half. A three-pointer by Booker put the Buffs up 11 and then hit another to put them up 14.

Lyons hit two free-throws and Hill scored off an offensive rebound to cut the lead down to nine, but a Johnson three-pointer put it right back at 24-11 with about seven minutes left in the half. Another Johnson three-pointer extended the lead to 16. Nick Johnson tried to end the run with two free-throws, but Andre Roberson hit a three as the shot clock expired to put the Buffs up 30-13.

Parrom was able to answer with a three-pointer, but CU beat the Wildcats down the court for an easy layup before Grant Jerrett hit a three from the corner to pull Arizona within 13 with a little over three minutes left. Tarczewski was able to get to the line and make two free-throws to bring the Wildcats to within 11, but Xavier Johnson hit two of his own the next time down court.

Parrom proceeded to hit a jumper and Tarczewski scored off an offensive rebound, as the Buffs called timeout with 25 seconds left in the half and up nine. Nick Johnson was able to pick Booker with two seconds left in the half and made two free-throws to make it 34-27 in favor of Colorado at the half.

Colorado started the second half with two free-throws from Scott and then five consecutive points from Roberson. Tarczewski was able to score Arizona's first points of the half and after an exchange of baskets, Parrom made two free-throws. However, Dinwiddie had the answer to keep Colorado's lead at 13.

Parrom was able to make a two-pointer and Hill proceeded to add one of two free-throws to bring Arizona to within 45-35 with 16 minutes left. Scott extended the lead right back to 12 with a hook shot in the lane, but Chen picked up a three-point play to keep building on the CU lead. After an Arizona turnover, Dinwiddie got to the line and made one of two free-throws to go up 51-35 with 14 minutes left.

After an exchange of baskets, Nick Johnson hit a three-pointer to bring the Wildcats to within 13. However, Chen found himself open in the corner out of a timeout and matched it with one of his own. After a shot by Johnson, Jerrett hit a three-pointer from the corner to bring Arizona to 56-45 with over 11 minutes left.

Johnson hit two free-throws out of a timeout and the Wildcats forced a turnover with Mayes getting a layup to bring the Wildcats to within 56-49. However, Chen came back and hit a three-pointer and Scott hit a jumper as the shot clock expired to put the Buffs back up 12 with over eight minutes left. Hill was able to get a layup shortly after, but Scott scored for the Buffs the next time down court.

Jerrett was able to score from an offensive rebound, but Roberson made one of two free-throws in response. Lyons responded with a basket to put Arizona within nine points and a three-pointer by Hill brought Colorado's lead to just six. Tarczewski got fouled on an offensive rebound, but missed both free-throws.

Chen was able to make a basket and then followed it up with another off an Arizona turnover to put Colorado back up ten with four minutes left. A three-pointer by Lyons cut the CU lead to seven and Jeremy Adams made a layup to put it back to nine.

Hill proceeded to make two free-throws with 3:20 left , but Booker hit a three-pointer before an Arizona basket brought the Wildcats to within eight with 2:30 left.

Arizona cut it to four with 44 seconds left and a layup by Lyons brought Arizona to within two. Adams then missed a free-throw and Lyons was able to hit two from the line to tie the game with eight seconds left.

It then appeared that Chen banked in a three with no time left, but the refs calls it off and the game headed to overtime.

Scott started overtime with a basket inside, but Parrom came up with a three-point play to grab the lead. Xavier Johnson went to the line and made one of two free-throws to tie it and another basket by Parrom gave Arizona the 85-83 point lead with three minutes left.

Chen missed two free-throws with under two minutes left and Lyons was able to come up with a three-point play to extend the lead to 88-83 with 1:09 left. Lyons made two free-throws shortly after to seal the deal and give the UA an improbable win.
