Gibson to West Virginia

Numerous reports on Tuesday night indicate that safeties coach Tony Gibson is headed to West Virginia. Read on for all the latest.

WildcatAuthority.com has confirmed numerous reports out of West Virginia on Tuesday night that Arizona Assistant Head Coach and safeties coach Tony Gibson has accepted a job at West Virginia to coach in the secondary.

Sources say that the move is motivated by family, but it is still a surprising one due to history between Gibson and Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez.

Gibson coached at West Virginia during Rodriguez's entire tenure as the head coach, serving as the cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator for one year as well.

In addition, Gibson coached at Michigan with Rodriguez and was at Pittsburgh for a year before joining Rodriguez again at Arizona.

Keith Patterson is the defensive coordinator at West Virginia and has been given the freedom to hire numerous position coaches after West Virginia had a terrible year defensively. It appears that Patterson has looked to Gibson, who he coached with at Pitt.

It is unclear where Arizona will turn to in order to replace Gibson, but it also must find a replacement for offensive line coach Robert Anae as well.
