Player of the Game:
Kaleb Tarczewski – The freshman big man had possibly his best game in a Wildcat uniform, finishing with ten points and seven rebounds. It tied his career high in points and the seven rebounds was his highest total since the Arizona State game. More importantly, Tarczewski had a good pair of hands throughout the game, which was one area that he needed improvement with.
Arizona came out firing on all cylinders to start the game. It was very similar to the UCLA game, except that the Wildcats were able to hit their shots this time and take a commanding lead early on. The guards were aggressive on defense and it made a difference, as they were able to force turnovers and get the fast break running well in the first parts of the game.
While Grant Jerrett is still trying to find his niche, the other two freshmen big men have began to play well consistently. We can throw out the UCLA game as a game that most of the Wildcats didn't play well in, but Tarczewski's line along with Ashley's eleven points and seven rebounds is good news for Arizona.
Sean Miller Quotable:
"Kaleb's getting better," Sean Miller said. "He's not getting enough credit for the way he's rebounded this season. He had seven again tonight and he's been a part of so many good things.
"Scoring is a part of his future and hopefully a part of this year's future, but he'll get better in that area. If he was a better free throw shooter, he'd be a more consistent scorer."
"I think we knew after the UCLA game that we really wanted to come out and attack them on defense," Tarczewski said.
"We had a rough start the other night and coach really stressed that in the locker room before the game. That start really helped us carry the momentum throughout the game."
