McGee was previously undecided about where he was going to attend college. He eventually chose Arizona for many reasons and one of those reasons is an academic program.
"When I went down to Tucson, they treated me really well," McGee said. "The atmosphere is just amazing.
"My mom and I did research on all the schools that were recruiting me. We found out that Arizona has one of the top Engineering schools in the country and that's what I want to study, so that helped me with my decision."
The athlete chose to be a Wildcat on the morning of Signing Day and McGee eventually knew that the coaches in Tucson were the ones he wanted to be with.
"I was waiting and I decided this morning," McGee said. "It came down to crunch time and I knew that there was one place that I wanted to be.
"I really felt like the coaches at Arizona treated me better than any of the other coaches out there. When I talk to them, they talk to me like I'm already there."
The Wildcats have been recruiting McGee for over a year and the hard work has paid off for them. Arizona Defensive Line Coach Bill Kirelawich, someone who McGee has become very close with, recruited the athlete.
"Billy Kirelawich was my main recruiter down there," he said. "Coach K is a really cool dude. He knows all of his stuff and he's really funny, too. He has been recruiting me since the end of my junior year and it got to a point where we were talking almost every day for a while.
"He would call me when he could and I would call him to check up on things. Most of the time, we talked about how I was doing in school and with football and my family, but I also got to ask him about Arizona and how their season was going. Coach Kirlav and I are really close."
The new Wildcat has always dreamed of playing at the next level. Throughout high school, he has looked up to older guys who were going of to college and it motivated him to get to the point where he could sign with Arizona.
"I think I'm really just excited to be a part of Arizona," McGee said. "It's great to know that I'm going to go to an amazing college and get my education.
"When I was younger, I got to see the older guys on Signing Day and I just wanted to be in that position one day. Now, I got to sign my letter of intent and I'm just excited for this opportunity."
McGee has already sent his letter of intent to Arizona, but will celebrate with a ceremony later tonight with several of his high school teammates.
