Brock Motum quickly got Washington State on the board before Kevin Parrom hit consecutive three-pointers. Motum then hit one of his own, but Kaleb Tarczewski scored the next time down court. Nick Johnson and Royce Woolridge then proceeded to exchange free-throws as Arizona led 9-6 with 15:48 left in the first half.
Arizona added a jumper by Brandon Ashley and a three-pointer by Grant Jerrett before the next media timeout to take a 14-6 lead with 11:31 left in the first half. Will Dilorio added a free-throw out of a timeout, but Tarczewski matched it with by going one of two from the line as well. Jerrett was able to add a three-pointer soon after to extend Arizona's lead to 18-7 with a little over nine minutes left as a jumper by Solomon Hill then made it a 13-point game.
D.J. Shelton proceeded to score his first bucket of the game, but Tarczewski scored again. Motum and Hill then exchanged baskets as Arizona kept a 24-11 lead with 6:58 left in the first half. After a free-throw by Motum, Angelo Chol hit a jumper. Soon after, Chol got an offensive rebound and found Mark Lyons for a three that matched one by Dexter Kernich-Drew as Arizona led 29-15 with 3:50 left in the half.
After a free-throw by Ashley, Dilorio and he exchanged baskets. DaVonte Lacy then made two from the line, but Tarczewski picked up a three-point play the next time down court to give Arizona the 35-19 lead at the half.
Tarczewski started the half with a bucket that was matched by Motum before Lyons was able to connect with a three-pointer. After a Hill free-throw, Lyons came up with a layup. Motum then followed with one of two free-throws to bring the Cougars to within 43-22 with 15:56 left. Royce Woolridge proceeded to make his first field goal of the game before Dilorio made two free-throws.
Motum then made two free-throws to bring the Cougars within 15 points and a three-pointer by Brett Boese forced Arizona to call timeout up 43-31 with 12:43 left. Parrom made a layup out of the timeout and Johnson added two free-throws to put Arizona back up 16. A three-pointer by Lacy tried to get things going for the Cougars again with a little over nine minutes left.
Lacy and Ashley exchanged baskets before Motum got the Cougars within 11. However, Parrom hit a three from the corner to put the lead back at 14. Unfortunately for Arizona, Shelton matched the three with 6:46 left as Arizona led 52-41. Parrom proceeded to hit a three-pointer out of a timeout before Lacy made one of two from the line.
The next time down court, Parrom hit his fifth three-pointer of the game, but Dilorio and Motum scored consecutive baskets with about five minutes to go.
About a minute later, a Lyons three-pointer extended the Arizona lead to 61-46 as Lacy and Johnson then exchanged baskets. Shelton proceeded to make two free-throws, but Tarczewski did the same the next time down court.
Motum answered with a basket to bring the Cougars to within 13 with about two minutes left, but Lyons had a three-point lead that put the Wildcats up 16 with a little over a minute left.
