Matthews among the best

Charles Matthews is rated as the top point guard in 2015 and his recruitment is starting to resemble it. Read on to see the schools after him, where Arizona stands, and much more.

2015 guard Charles Matthews may not have played his best basketball this past weekend at Nike EYBL Los Angeles, but it did not really matter.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Chicago St. Rita five-star guard has plenty of suitors and believes that he has come a long way since last season.

"I am different from this time last season because I have been working on getting my I.Q. up and trying to get stronger and improve my jump shot," Matthews said.

"I would say I am a long and wiry combo guard that likes to pass the ball and can get into the lane. I also like to use my length on both sides of the ball and make things happen."

Matthews is currently hearing from schools throughout the country and has seen his recruitment pick up even more after this past weekend.

"A lot of schools from a lot of conferences are recruiting me," he said. "I have offers from Arizona, DePaul, Marquette, Wisconsin, and Providence, but Michigan State and Stanford have been pretty hard on me lately also."

Arizona was one of the first schools to offer Matthews and he has developed a strong relationship with one of its assistants.

"I talk with Coach Book Richardson and he lets me know I can really take the program to new heights and where they want to go," Matthews said.

The number-one rated point guard in the country is taking everything in stride and says that he currently does not have any leaders.

"They all are great schools," Matthews said. "I don't have any favorites and I would be glad to play for any of those schools."

As far as what Matthews is looking for in a school, he has a pretty good idea of what his decision will come down to.

"I want a school that is going to make me comfortable and where I can build a good relationship with the coaching staff," he said. "I also want a school that gets after it on the defensive end and gets up and down on the offensive side as well.

"Location does not matter. You never know, I can stay home or go far away; it really does not matter to me."
