Matthews likely to visit

Charles Matthews is one of the top players in 2015. Read on to see what his mother says about his recruitment, visiting Arizona, and more.

Although there is plenty of focus on the 2014 class, that hasn't stopped the coaching staff from looking to the 2015 class for other talented perimeter prospects like Chicago St. Rita shooting guard Charles Matthews.

"There are a lot of schools recruiting Charles," Charles' mother Nicole said. "He's visited Illinois and DePaul because they are close to home and I told him this summer we would take him out to one place where he wants to visit."

That visit is not decided yet, but Nicole says that Arizona is in good position to get it.

"I would guess he would like to take a visit to a warm climate, so I'm guessing we will be checking out Arizona or possibly Southern Methodist University," she said. "Providence has also done a very nice job recruiting him, so they might be under consideration as well."

The Arizona coaching staff is doing its best to make sure Matthews gets out to Arizona sooner than later.

"The Arizona coaches came to an open gym recently when they were allowed," Matthews said. "Also, they have let Charles know they like his game and they are trying to stay in touch as much as the rules allow.

"They think he's a talented kid and would fit into their system because he is versatile and really wants to win and compete hard."

Arizona seems to be a natural fit for the Matthews family from an academic perspective as well.

"Academics will definitely factor into Charles's decision," Matthews said. "He seems to be settling in on majoring in business with an outside possibility at culinary arts.

"He's really taken an interest into looking into future avenues of making money and his college experience should help him with that."
