Gates staying busy

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman lineman Nick Gates is one of the best in the west. Read on for his thoughts on Arizona, future visits, and more.

Although there are higher-rated offensive linemen, few possess the athleticism of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman offensive tackle Nick Gates.

"I take pride in being able to move and do a lot of things," Gates said. "The last few weeks and months have been pretty busy because I've been playing baseball and I missed a lot of spring ball because of it, but I'm basically trying to keep busy and improve my all-around athleticism."

Gates is enjoying the recruiting process and is flattered by the attention he is receiving.

"No schools really stick out right now," Gates said. "It's nice though because I've been getting a ton of interest and offers from some of the better teams in the country."

In fact, that attention from numerous schools is what has kept Gates excited about the process.

"It's really exciting to get some big-name schools coming after me, but it's also nice to hear from some other schools that are trying to improve and get to that next level," he said.

Arizona is trying to get to that next level and has stayed in steady contact with Gates. "They've spent some time recruiting me," Gates said. "We communicate pretty often. The coaches say they like my ability to finish plays and they think I can add some size to their line."

Although he hasn't spent much time thinking about his recruitment, Gates is ready to take the next step.

"I've put off looking at schools for some time because I've just been too busy with stuff," Gates said. "Now that I'm done with all that, I'm going to start taking some unofficial visits."

gates is going to look at his overall recruitment in order to figure out the schools he wants to see.

"I'm going to spend the next month or so looking at those schools and then I will come up with a list of schools that I want to go to on official visits," he said.

As far as a decision goes, Gates plans on taking his time.

"I don't plan on deciding anytime soon," he said. "I want to take my official visits then spend some time and try to look at everything I just saw. I would imagine I will decide during the baseball season or sometime right after."
