One of the lesser-known players that Arizona has reached out to is Tampa (Fla.) Sickles linebacker Josh Black. He holds just a handful of Division-I offers, but hopes that his recruitment will take off in the coming months.
"My recruitment has been coming along very well," Black said. "It was going a little slow for a while, but things should pick up during the summer time."
"Things have been going really good with Arizona," he said. "We get along really well. I'm always happy to talk to them when they call me."
Black talks with multiple Arizona coaches, but one in particular: Jeff Casteel. The Defensive Coordinator is also the linebacker coach for the Wildcats and has been trying to get Black on campus.
"I talk to the Offensive Coordinators at times, but I mostly talk with the Defensive Coordinator, Jeff Casteel," he said. "My relationship with Jeff is very good. I think we getting very close and its great to stay in touch with him.
"We talk about regular things. He asks how my day is going and how I'm doing with school. He wants me to get down there for a visit, but we haven't decided on a date yet."
The linebacker knows that Arizona stands out in certain ways. He enjoys the coaching staff, but Tucson also offers the 6-foot-2 athlete something else.
"I really like the coaching staff at Arizona," Black said. "They are straight up with me and very honest. The school is also really nice. It's similar to Florida with the heat and the great environment. I would like to stay warm, so that's good."
Black plans on taking a few trips in the next few months, but hasn't planned any yet. He has three schools picked out, including Arizona.
He is still trying to get through the recruiting process, but understands that there are other things besides football. Black wants to work on his schoolwork as well as improving him football skills.
"Over the summer, I want to work hard in the classroom and the football field," he said. "I need to hit the books a little bit, but I need to keep working on improving myself for football, too.
"There are a few camps I am looking at, but I'm not really sure which ones I want to go to. It will most likely only be one or two, but the one I'm looking at the hardest is a camp in Miami."
The 220-pound linebacker is taking things slow and wouldn't name any leaders in his recruitment. Once the summer gets into full gear, Black hopes that one school will stand out, so that he can make a commitment in a few short months.
"Right now, I don't really have any leaders," Black said. "The schools that have offered me are going to be ahead of ones that haven't, but I am trying to stay open.
"I would like to decide before the end of the summer. If it drags on a little bit, then I could see myself announcing in the early part of the football season, but not much longer."
