Worthy nearing decision

2014 defensive lineman Jeff Worthy recently visited Arizona's campus. Read on to find out where the Wildcats stand, when Worthy will decide, and more.

Over the weekend, Santa Ana (Calif.) defensive tackle Jeff Worthy took in the sights of the new Lowell-Stevens Football Facility at the University of Arizona and came away impressed.

"It was a great visit," Worthy said. "It was a really great campus. It was a really small campus, which is a good thing because everything is in walking distance.

"The facilities are really nice. I like the football stadium. It was just a really good visit."

One of the things that stood out the most to Worthy was the upgraded weight room.

"The equipment that they have in the weight room is brand new to me," he said. "There are all kinds of new technology. Instead of using chains for machines, they use a rope and air compression device instead. They had a lot of really cool stuff to show us."

The defensive lineman was a guest at a red carpet event that featured several of the Wildcats' recruits.

"It was an honor to be there for the opening of the new facility," Worthy said. "It was a really cool experience for me. It was pretty neat."

Worthy arrived in Tucson a day early and was able to speak with some of the Arizona coaches on Friday before speaking to Head Coach Rich Rodriguez on Saturday.

"I got there on Friday and I got to talk to the coaches," he said. "I got to talk to Coach Kirlav, Coach Casteel, and Coach Smith. I got a chance to talk to them a little bit and get to know them.

"On Saturday, after the long day, I got to sit down and talk to Coach Rodriguez for a little bit. We really talked about my future and things like that."

During their conversations, the defensive lineman was able to see exactly how the Wildcats would like to use him on the field.

"They want me to play as a five-technique," Worthy said. "That sets up on the outside of the offensive tackle. They are running an odd man front that was invented by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I really enjoyed how they broke it down for me. It looks like a really fun defense. It really sparked my interest."

Worthy starts fall camp in two weeks. He will head home and is likely to have a decision before then.

"I'm going to go home and talk to my parents," Worthy said. "I really enjoyed Arizona. I want my parents to talk to Coach Rodriguez and Coach Kirlav. I'll see what they have to say and I will probably have my decision by the end of the week.

"Arizona is my number one right now based off this visit. It was a really great visit."
