"I've heard from Arizona a little bit," McClease said. "I've gotten mail from them and stuff like that, so we will see how things play out.
"I've only gone on an unofficial to Virginia Tech, so schools have time to get in on me."
McClease is approaching his recruitment with an open mind.
"I'm looking to give everyone a legit shot at landing me," McClease said. "I've got a lot of schools from all over the country recruiting me, and while I like where I'm at, if there is school that has everything I'm looking for, I have no problem traveling."
There are some areas that McClease is more concerned about than others.
"First I want to go to a school that has good academics," he said. "I think I want to major in business, so I would like to find a school that is strong in that field.
"The schools facilities are also important to me. I want to go to a place where I can really train like an elite athlete. A school with good facilities really shows how serious the school is about competing."
Competition at running back won't play a factor in McClease's decision.
"I feel like I can play with about anyone," McClease said. "Obviously, it would be nice to go to a place that needs me to play right away, but if I find a place that has other backs and I still really like the school, I would probably go there."
With so much to think about, McClease doesn't plan on making a decision until next year at the earliest.
"I'm still in the first stages of my recruitment," he said. "Basically, I'm trying to find out who is seriously interested and then I'll go from there. I'm guessing I will decide my senior season."
