At the end of the game, it looked the Ducks were the underdogs.
Ka'Deem Carey rushed for over 200 yards and four touchdowns as Arizona's complete team effort helped defeat Oregon 42-16 Saturday at Arizona Stadium.
Arizona took possession on the Oregon 45 with a three-yard run by Ka'Deem Carey followed by a six-yard gain on the ground. Carey then picked up the first down with a three-yard gain before B.J. Denker found Terrence Miller for five yards.
After a two-yard run from Carey, Miller gained eight in the air. Denker then ran for three yards and gained nine on the next play. Carey proceeded to score from five yards out as the extra point gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 11:51 left in the first quarter.
Arizona's defense held Oregon on the next drive with the Ducks only able to gain one yard on the ground before a punt gave the Wildcats the ball on their own 41.
The drive started with a nine-yard pass to Miller and Carey followed with a gain for seven and then 11. After a false start two plays later, Miller got a six-yard reception and Trey Griffey caught a nine-yard pass. Carey proceeded to gain four on the ground and Denker gained five.
Arizona got the first down with an offsides call on Oregon and two plays later, Denker found Phillips for the nine-yard touchdown with the extra point giving the Wildcats a 14-0 lead with 7:09 left in the first quarter.
Looking for an answer, Oregon started on its own 20-yard line with a four-yard run from Byron Marshall. Mariota then found Daryle Hawkins for 13 yards. De'Anthony Thomas gained three on the ground and Keanon Lowe followed with an 18-yard catch for the first down.
On second down, Thomas caught a screen pass and went for 24 yards. After an illegal block, Thomas caught a 20-yard pass in the middle of the field. Arizona proceeded to force third and goal from the six, where Oregon was called for holding.
On the ensuing third down, Mariota threw an incomplete pass and the Ducks settled for a 33-yard field goal to cut Arizona's lead to 14-3 with 2:49 left in the first quarter.
Arizona started on its own 17 with an eight-yard run by Carey followed by seven from Denker. Carey then got five on the ground and after three yards from Denker, Carey got the first down with three of his own as a four-yard carry on the next play ended the quarter with Arizona leading 14-3.
On the first play of the quarter, Miller got a 13-yard pass from Denker. Three plays later, Denker found Samajie Grant for ten yards and the first. Carey then gained two on the ground and Denker responded with six of his own.
After a seven-yard run by Carey, Denker gained eight. Two plays later, Denker found Miller for the five-yard touchdown and Arizona led 21-3 with 11:32 left in the first half.
Starting on its own 33, Oregon got eight yards from Thomas Tyner followed with a carry for one and three yards. Bralon Addison lost three yards on the next play, but Mariota then ran for seven and gave Tyner a lateral for 14 more.
Mariota proceeded to find Huff for 17 yards and then ran for 15. Arizona was able to force a fourth and goal from the one, but Mariota found Pharaoh Brown for the one-yard touchdown. Oregon tried to fake the extra point, but failed, as Arizona kept a 21-9 lead with 7:39 left in the first half.
On first down from the 25, Denker connected with Miller for 23 yards. The drive then stalled and Denker actually punted on fourth down, putting the Ducks on their own four with 6:23 left in the first half.
Oregon took over on its own four and got runs of 15, 7, and 20 from Thomas, On the next play, Tyner fumbled and Arizona took possession on its own 46.
Arizona was able to get to third and two on the next drive due to two four-yard runs by Carey, but Denker was tackled for a loss on third down and the Ducks started their ensuing drive from their own one with 3:27 left in the half.
The drive started with a seven-yard pass to Addison. After a four-yard run by Thomas, Evan bayliss caught a 15-yard reception. Thomas then gained six on the ground and five in the air. Mariota proceeded to run for six before finding Thomas for seven and Addison for six more. Three plays later, Oregon fumbled forward on fourth down and the UA took over on its own 41 with about a minute left in the half.
On first down, Carey gained seven and followed with six more. Grant then caught an eight-yard pass and Miller got a grab for 17 yards. On the next play, Denker connected with Grant for 21 yards to get to Oregon's one with 22 seconds left. It only took only one play for Carey to run it in from the one-yard line with the extra point giving the Wildcats the 28-9 lead at the half.
Arizona started on its own 25, but went three and out as Oregon took over on its own 18. Thomas gained six and five on runs before mariota found Addison for 33 yards. Thomas added a five-yard run and two plays later gained six more on the ground.
Mariota then gained five and Tyner added 14. Arizona proceeded to force a fourth and two, but Mariota's pass sailed long and Arizona took over on its own six.
Carey started the drive with a seven-yard run and two plays later, broke the school rushing record with a 20-yard gain. The drive, however, basically ended there and Arizona was forced to punt once again, giving the Ducks the ball on their own 38.
On second down, Arizona forced Thomas to lose 12 yards and the Ducks went three and out with the Wildcats getting the ball on their own 30.
Carey started the drive with a six-yard run and Denker then found Phillips for six more. After a chop block, Carey got three on the ground. Phillips then caught a 17-yard pass and, on third down, Oregon was called for defensive holding to keep the drive alive.
On first down, Denker ran for 11 yards and Carey followed it up with ten. Two plays later, Griffey had a ten-yard reception and Carey proceeded to score on a nine-yard run to tie the school record for rushing touchdowns with the 48th of his career, as the extra point put Arizona up 35-9 with about two minutes left in the third quarter.
Oregon started on its own 16 with a 14-yard pass to John Mundt followed by an eight-yard grab by Addison. Tyner ran for six yards and on third down, Huff caught a 29-yard pass to extend the drive. Two plays later, Hawkins caught a 30-yard pass to put the Ducks on the UA one-yard line and end the third quarter down 35-9.
After two runs for no gain from Tyner, Huff caught the two-yard touchdown as the Oregon extra point cut Arizona's lead to 35-17 with 14:11 left in regulation.
Arizona started on its own 25 and, on second down, gained 35 on the ground. After a four-yard run by Carey, he gained nine more and followed with eight. Denker then got eight on the ground and Carey followed with a run for 6, 3 and 2. Two plays later, Carey picked up three yards and then scored from one-yard out on the next play as the extra point put Arizona up 42-16 with under ten minutes left and sealed the game.
