Wildcats survive late Bruins' rally

Arizona defeated UCLA 79-75 on Thursday night. Read on for a complete recap of the win.

Arizona survived a furious late rally by UCLA Thursday at Pauley Pavilion to defeat the Bruins 79-75.

Kaleb Tarczewski started with two free-throws, but Travis Wear matched with a jumper. Norman Powell then scored as Tarczewski got a three-point play. Powell and Kyle Anderson scored consecutive hoops, as Aaron Gordon scored on a dunk. Travis Wear and T.J. McConnell proceeded to score as the Bruins led 10-9 with 15:07 left in the first half.

Brandon Ashley made two free-throws, but Jordan Adams answered. After a bucket by McConnell, Gabe York made a three. Tony Parker then scored and Tarczewski did the same to put Arizona up 18-14 with about 11 minutes left in the first half.

Gordon and Anderson matched buckets before Zach LaVine scored. Tarczewski and Nick Johnson then proceeded to get layups and the Wildcats went up 24-18 with 7:50 left in the half.

Parker and Anderson scored before Johnson hit a three. David Wear then scored and Parker added two free-throws. Ashley got a layup and Bryce Alford banked in a three to tie the game at 29 as two free-throws by Lavine put UCLA up 31-29 with 3:49 left.

York hit a three and Travis Wear scored before Johnson got a bucket as well. Adams hit a free-throw, but Gordon scored in the paint. After two free-throws by Alford, Johnson hit a three and two free-throws by Parker put the Arizona lead at 39-38. York then hit a three and extended that lead to 42-38 at the half.

McConnell and Johnson started the half with a score each, but Powell and Adams responded and Lavine hit a jumper. Tarczewski then got a dunk before Adams made two free-throws and cut the Arizona lead to 48-46 with 16:21 left in regulation.

Johnson hit a three as the shot clock expired to bring the lead to five and a layup by Gordon put Arizona up seven. Anderson then hit a jumper, but York made a free-throw and Tarczewski scored to put Arizona up 56-48 with about 13 minutes left.

Ashley made two free-throws to put the lead at ten and a layup off a break by Johnson kept it going. Lavine and Adams answered as Ashley hit a jumper. Parker then scored on the offensive glass and Tarczewski hit one in the lane to help Arizona to a 64-54 lead with 7:36 left in regulation.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored and Anderson added a free-throw before Johnson had a dunk. A jumper by Anderson then cut the Arizona lead to 68-57 as a three by Alford put the Bruins within single digits with 4:32 left.

Two free-throws by Alford and two more by Anderson continues UCLA's run and made it a four point game with 3:29 left.

Anderson once again got to the line and made one of two to cut the UA lead to three. Adams then made the three to tie the game with 2:14 left in regulation.

Ashley got to the line and made one, giving the Wildcats a one point lead with two minutes left. Alford also got to the line soon after and made both, giving the Bruins a 70-69 lead with 1:44 left.

Johnson got in the lane and hit a floater for the one-point lead as Gordon went to the lane and made both for a three-point lead. Tarczewski went to the line with 50 seconds left and made one of two to give Arizona a four-point lead.

McConnell went to the line with 34 seconds left and made both, giving the Wildcats a six-point lead. Anderson then made a layup to get within four with 26 seconds left. Johnson was fouled and made one of two before Lavine made a three to cut the Arizona lead to two.

York was fouled with 12.7 seconds left and made both of his attempts to extend the Arizona lead to 79-75 and seal the game.
