Quarterback impressed with offer

Brian Lewerke was offered by Arizona over the weekend. Read on to see his reaction, where his recruitment is headed, and more.

Arizona hosted numerous in-state visitors on Saturday and a handful of them came away with an offer.

One of those players is 6-foot-3, 180-pound Phoenix Pinnacle signal caller Brian Lewerke, who had a feeling the offer was coming.

"My coach had told me on Thursday that he thought they were going to offer me, so I was kind of expecting it when I got there," Lewerke said. "It was a good day. I got up there and coach offered me right when I got up there, so I got some good news pretty quickly.

"I had never really seen the campus too much, so I was able to go on a tour and see all their stuff and it was pretty impressive."

The Arizona coaching staff let Lewerke know that it feels he would be a good fit for what it wants to do offensively.

"They said I fit pretty well," Lewerke said. "They want a guy that can throw the ball really well, but also has the ability to burn you on the ground when they need you to and they said I fit into that well."

As Lewerke talks to the schools involved in his recruitment, he has a pretty good idea of what he will be concentrating on.

"I think I am looking at how much they seem interested in me," he said. "If the school really wants you they are going to be more inclined to have you really compete for that starting job.

"Also a place where I can go in there and hopefully play maybe my first year and most likely my second year would be a great place for me."

Lewerke is aware of Arizona's quarterback numbers, but also understands why the coaching staff chooses to hold so many.

"I know they have a lot of quarterbacks on their roster, but they just like to have a lot of quarterbacks in case one gets injured," he said. "I have confidence in my ability and hopefully that I would be able to beat out those guys and get the starting job."

The three-star quarterback has plans to see other schools and an idea of when he would like to make a final decision.

"I am hearing from ASU and UCLA, who have offered me and then Washington and Michigan a little bit also," he said. "I might be taking an unofficial to Michigan for one of their spring practice games and then I have not planned any camps, but I will definitely be going to some.

"I am hoping the latest I will decide is before my senior year starts. The earliest could really be any time until now until then."
