"Honestly, Coach Matt Dudek had a lot to do with why I committed," McCoy said. "He really got me interested in the school and then as I continued to meet everyone else I realized I really liked the school and the coaches were great.
"They know football and I also got the sense that they cared about me and how I will progress into the future."
Arizona was able to get on McCoy earlier than the majority of the other schools involved in his recruitment.
"Arizona was on me first, but I got recruited by West Coast schools a little bit later than most and I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that I missed the first half of this past season because I transferred from another high school," he said.
McCoy remained patient throughout the process and knew he would be rewarded.
"I worked hard the past year and I had a feeling once I got out on the field coaches would notice me and that definitely happened," McCoy said. "I bulked up and kept my quickness, so I had some things going for me."
In addition to football, McCoy has a good idea what else his future holds.
"I want to major in business at Arizona," he said. "I want to one day become a business owner and that it something that I believe I can excel at.
"It's something I've given a lot of thought to and when I get to college I plan on taking advantage of that as well as working hard to become the best football player I can be."
