Smith looking to visit

Cameron Smith is one of the top linebackers in the country. Read on for an update on his recruitment and how Arizona is involved.

Granite Bay (Calif.) linebacker Cameron Smith may be the top middle backer in the country, but still feels as if he has something to prove.

"I have been working on my hands and hips, but I have been working on my coverage skills as well," Smith said. "I want to show that I am a three down guy."

Smith will basically have his choice of schools and knows what he will be looking at as he goes through the process.

"My relationship with my position coach," Smith said. "The overall school tradition, academics will be one of the biggest things. I am looking for a school with a good mix of those."

There have been some rumors that it will be difficult to get Cameron out of Southern California, but he did not necessarily agree with that.

"I am not thinking I am going anywhere right now," Smith said. "I have not made a list yet. I am probably going to do that during the summer and right now nobody is at the top, so we will see who comes along."

One of the schools hoping to remain involved is Arizona.

"We have talked a lot and they are recruiting me heavily," Smith said. "Having Tony Ellison go there is nice and I feel like I can talk to him about it. I don't have a lot of questions, but it is nice to talk to the Arizona coaching staff."

As of now, Smith has his eye on a few places that he would like to visit.

"I will probably go to Oregon and Washington, but my main focus is The Opening and the Army game, but we will see what happens," Smith said.

"We are going to go up North and then probably go to Arizona and fly back and maybe see some eastern schools."

In terms of a final decision, Smith has a pretty good idea of when he wants to end his recruitment.

"After I take my five officials I will announce it, but right now I am playing it slow and going through the process," he said.

"I want to graduate early in January, so the decision will come with a lot of time left. I am not waiting that long, but I am not rushing to just get it over with."
