Cage keeps developing

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei center M.J. Cage is one of the top prospects in the west for his class. Read on to see why that is, his thoughts on his recruitment, and more.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei sophomore center M.J. Cage keeps improving, thus it is no surprise that the five-star prospect is already hearing from plenty of schools.

"I have a couple of offers and everything with recruiting has been going well," Cage said. "Kentucky, Gonzaga, Washington, UCLA, USC, Arizona, and San Diego State have all offered. I am not sure who else is close to offering."

Cage is familiar with Arizona for numerous reasons, including the fact that the coaching staff has an active presence at his school.

"I like the school and I am actually from there too," Cage said of Arizona. "I see the school a lot and then Stanley is going there and he told me about it."

As Cage talks to Arizona and the other schools recruiting him, he has a good idea of what he is looking at.

"I want a school that is not mostly a guard school," he said. "A school that runs things through their bigs and helps them develop."

Speaking of development, Cage has done plenty since last season. He certainly is not done yet, as highlighted by what he has been working to improve.

"I want to work on my dribbling and shooting," Cage said. "I also want to work on improving on my left hand. Last year I was not real aggressive and I did not have enough confidence.

"I wasn't really trusting myself, so this year I am trying to bring more confidence to myself and my teammates and doing my best."

The current plan is for Cage to play through the summer and then go from there, but he knows he would ideally like to see some schools soon.

"I don't have any plans to visit any schools, but I will see some in the future," he said. "I know I want to take my time with a decision and see the schools recruiting me."
