Denson preparing for both sides of the ball

Arizona signee Cam Denson is ready to play on both sides of the ball when he arrives on campus. Read on to find out how he is preparing, what his plans are, and more.

With spring camp over, Arizona will look forward to the summer and the arrival of the new names and faces joining the roster.

As high school is ending, the most heralded recruit of the 2014 recruiting class, Cameron Denson, has yet to know where he will be seeing his playing time in the fall, but that isn't stopping him from trying to wrap up his school work.

"Everything has been going good for me," Denson said. "I am just trying to finish strong with graduation right around the corner. I just want to finish it all up."

Along with his school work, Denson has been playing basketball for his high school.

"I haven't done any work with my school because I was playing basketball," Denson said. "We lost in the quarterfinals, but I think it was a good season although we didn't get achieve our ultimate goal."

Denson is a spectacular athlete who played both wide receiver and cornerback in high school. There has been some discussion on where he would play in college, but that has yet to be decided.

"I'm up for the challenge of playing both sides of the ball," Denson said. "If that's what happens, then that's what happens. I just want to contribute to the team's success, so that we can win some games."

Denson enjoys getting on the field wherever he can, but he has been pulled towards defense lately.

"I prefer defense a little bit more right now, but it doesn't really matter to me what the coaches decide," he said. "Not knowing won't impact how I train this summer or anything like that. I just need to train for both sides and get everything down."

With summer right around the corner, the athlete is trying to gear up for his first few months of summer college workouts.

"Right now, I am just trying to get stronger and put some weight on," Denson said. "I've been doing the little things and working on just a little bit of everything. I've been trying to perfect my technique and everything because playing at the next level, I will have to be better at those little things."

Although many incoming recruits have much different workout regiments that what they received from the coaches, Denson was on a similar program before at Salpointe Catholic High School.

"I do the strength and conditioning workouts that the coaches gave me," he said. "It's not that different from what I was already doing. The only major difference is the amount of reps."

Denson is looking forward to getting on campus. He already doesn't live far from campus, but is cherishing the idea of being on his own.

"I'm really excited to compete for a spot on the field," he said. "I'm really fortunate to have the opportunity to play at the next level and I am looking forward to it all, but I am still trying to take it day-by-day.

"I'm going to be moving away from home, but not too far. That's one of the best things for me because it will help me grow up a little bit."

Once he enrolls in classes and gets started working out witht he team, Denson will be looking to find a more concrete role, so that he can prepare for the season.

"I just want to get in and start learning everything," he said. "I want to get adjusted as quick as I can. If I'm going to be playing offense, I need to learn the playbook and if I'm playing defense, I will need to learn the schemes. I just want to get in and get familiar with the system."

With basketball and schoolwork filing up his spring, Denson was not able to make it to any of the Arizona workouts or the spring game, but he did have someone who was taking notes for him.

"I had plans to go to the spring game, but I had to cancel so that I could take the ACT," Denson said. "I think I did pretty well on it, so I can't be too upset about missing the game.

"I haven't had a lot of time to go and see any of the practices this spring, but my dad has been to pretty much all of them and he always come home and tells me what happened and talks to me about it."

It is only a month before Denson's college career begins, but that doesn't mean there won't be a little time for him to relax before then.

"I report to camp on June 8th," Denson said. "I'm pretty excited about it. That's when I'm supposed to find out who I'm rooming with and everything.

"Before then, I am going to go to Disneyland and relax for a bit so I can be all ready to get to work."
