Bethlehem (Penn.) Catholic 2015 wide receiver Freddie Simmons opened a number of eyes this past season.
"I didn't do very well early on in the season," Simmons said. "I only had a couple of catches early on, but after that I really took off. I had a game where I had 5 catches for 212 yards and a bunch of touchdowns. From there everything took off and I finished with like 11 touchdowns."
Simmons season was a boon for a high school that needed playmakers.
"We had a really big turnaround," Simmons said. "It was only a season ago that we had one win and to get to the state playoffs next season was a really big deal."
Coaches from all over the country have noticed, as Simmons' recruitment has taken off.
"I'm being recruited by places like Rutgers and Connecticut and schools like Arizona," Simmons said. "Oregon is one of the schools coming out here soon."
It appears Rutgers has made the best initial impression.
"Right now I would have to say they are the leader, but at the same time I want to see what other schools have going for them as well. Oregon has been my team from the beginning and if they came after me hard it would give me a lot to think about."
Still, Simmons is open to all schools and Arizona is in the process of trying to gauge his interest level.
"They tell me that they think I can play and that I would be a good fit there, but right now they are asking me if I would really be willing to go out to the West Coast.
"The official visits will matter in all this. I don't know where I will visit, but I want to get a feel for that this summer and if possible I want to decide before my high school playoff season begins."
