Arizona has to deal with one of its commitments getting more offers, putting out new offers itself, and more. Read on for all the latest.
Arizona offered Ve'ehala Tuihalamaka this week, as did Washington State. Miami is one of the schools that have already offered and he is getting attention from numerous others. In fact, it would not be a surprise at all to see his recruitment really take off, but the general belief is that he wants to take his time before making a decision. Tuihalamaka actually has the ability to play on the defensive line, but most of the offers he has received have been for offensive guard. Arizona will try to get him on campus and should be among the schools to beat at this point.
The Wildcats also offered junior Lake Gibson (Fla.) offensive lineman Baveon Johnson. The offer does not come as a surprise, as Johnson is one of the better young linemen in Florida and already holds an offer from Indiana, Kentucky, and Nebraska.
Johnson is a tackle right now, but has let schools know that he would rather be a guard at the next level and we doubt that any college recruiting him is going to disagree. Some believe that it could be difficult to get Johnson out of Florida, as he has camped at Miami and Florida State and wants to visit both this summer. Arizona has generally done well in Florida and it makes sense that Rod Smith and company decided to offer so early in the process.
Aiulua Fanene was added to the roster on Wednesday and Sani Fuimaono is expected to be added eventually as well. Fanene was always expected to rejoin Arizona, but it is still good to see him be added back in an official capacity. He redshirted his freshman year, but in 2011 played in ten games and made progress throughout the season.
The biggest question surrounding him is whether or not he will be in good enough shape to play. If he is, we have to believe that Fanene is going to get a decent amount of snaps right away on a defensive line that needs all the help it can get. It may take some time, but we do expect Fanene to be a contributor at some point this season and the hope is that it is sooner than later.
Another week, another offer for Arizona commit Shea Patterson. You can now add Tennessee and Notre Dame to the mix and Baylor and TCU recently offered as well. It feels that when it is all said and done, Patterson will basically have his choice of schools. Arizona obviously has the connection of his brother working on staff and it helps that the Wildcats were the first ones to offer and already have the commitment. It's not going to be easy to hold on to Patterson, but a part of the coaching staff has to at least like the fact that he is so highly regarded around the country.
